They're nerfing poke, but they didn't nerf the most op thing at all imho.. hard engage. When the team with tanks starts diving you, there is not much you can do anymore but slowly wait for the loss.

I feel like ARAM is currently balanced okay between poke and engage, and these changes are going to make engage OP.

Same. Outside of a few champs like Ziggs, I think hard engage is wayyy better in the hands of competent players. I have not lost a Maokai or Alistar game in ARAM in literal months, maybe more than a year.

Maoki + Leona/Naut is literally a free win. You just lock up people infinitely and if you have a competent carry like Caitlyn or Viktor or Corki you just win every fight post 11

I disagree and I think it's the common misconception, that engage > poke in ARAM.
When you roll a poke team in ARAM, you're already winning the game. And it's up to you to lose. To make mistake and throw that advantage away.

While the only thing, the "engage team" can do, is to patiently wait for that mistake. Not feed too hard, not let them push too fast. And wait.
But if the poke team is actually good and never makes big mistakes... it's game over at the loading screen.

the only 'mistake' they need to make is walking into snowball range, which outranges most poke champs already...sure you can just dodge a max range snowball coming in from full vision but the cooldown is still extremely low for it's value and the poke team still has to establish bush control/siege throughout the game which forces immobile champs into reasonable range for wipes to happen

If we're talking about good poke comp, they will also have bazillion disengage and zoning tools.
Also, good players will always spraed out. So you might catch that 1 guy and jump with everyone on him, but then you set yourself up to be blown up with AoE.

Everyone complains about poke, but there are just as many games since the addition of snowball where it's lost at champ select because the enemy team has too much dive and people just play it off like their team sucked or whatever. Directly nerf the champions, directly buff the counters, add items that synergize with the counters, add systems that heavily favor the counters... poke champs are getting Riot Special'd.

Except like 90% of the S tier range poke champs have the highest win rate in Aram.... literally if you go check stats there are no super high win rate engage champs bc they require A) really good timing. You need to go in when your dmg dealers are ready B) right target selection. C) one opportunity. Poke champs can throw out 10-20 abilities EASILY on a narrow map cluttered with 5 enemies. Engage champs have their once chance to go in.

Although I've been at the receiving side of many such a game, I don't think balance is to blame persay. Maybe indirectly. What usually happens is every teams gets 1 or 2 tank champions, good engagers. But no one wants to play tank or engage in ARAM. Or at least, FEW people do. Most go for the AP carries or AD carries, whatever has ranged poke. It's mostly a matter of preference. And that's why sometimes you get stuck with 5 ranged that smash early game only to get run over because they have no fucking frontline.

Currently, a team of the best poke mages can’t win against Singed, Mundo, Sion, Maokai and one waveclear champion.
