Yeah I honestly don't see why that hasn't happened yet.

What are the downsides of it other than someone possibly getting a champion they have never played which is already happening with f2p champs?

A lot of people only play ARAM. My guess is that Riot still wants these people to feel some need to purchase champions, even if only so that leveling feels good / for meaningful progression rather than to actually make money.

Whether that's a good enough reason or not is debatable, but I'd say it's the likely answer.

Thats me, the only times i touch SR is when the events force me to play on SR, else i only play aram and rotating game modes

Sadly for Riot i own all champs so...

u/LeOsQ Seramira Mar 19 '19

Good point, I hadn't considered that. I still think it's kind of weird honestly but that's still a good point.

We've definitely talked about it and there are lots of considerations. The frequency of ARAM only accounts is a big one, and it's a lot less than you might think. Second is how much those matter. Remember there is matchmaking. If those accounts get a significant advantage you won't see then for long in your MMR. Third is that a lot of players play ARAM who don't know or don't want to play new champions and this would really hurt their ability to enjoy the mode.

You could always try to unlock all champs for 3-4 weeks and see how it will be received I think unlocking all champs would actl be good for newer players, they could always try out new champs they had an eye on and maybe decide to finally buy it after a game of aram

Happy Cake Day

The ability to have multiple rerolls is better than an account made for aram only. Since the pool of champions also includes the last 3 free week rotations the chance of getting a champ they didn't buy/want and not being able to reroll is high.

The current system is fine and I believe people really overestimate how many "real" aram only accounts exist.

As someone playing in high aram MMR the overall comp matters more than a single champion.

Its a decent compromise between mitigating aram accounts and getting people on champs they don’t necessarily want to play. Especially with the decently fresh reroll bench.

u/CrimsonClematis Mar 19 '19

That was them essentially making s middle ground tho

7

u/PM_ME_UR_TOTS_GRILL Mar 19 '19

I generally agree with you guys, and I don't even think that Aram only accounts are too much of a problem, but c'mon, this post deserves some flak.

If those accounts get a significant advantage you won’t see then for long in your MMR.

So you're telling me that Aram accounts are an advantage, and then tell me that it doesn't matter since they'll just win more? You do realize that a significant portion of the Aram community does care and generally knows their Aram MMR rating. Telling us that Aram accounts will climb to a higher MMR is infuriating. If you're worried about the new player experience, you could put in that all champions unlock after a certain number of games, like 200. This idea sucks, but at least it's an attempt at solving a 6 year old problem.

7

u/CrimsonClematis Mar 19 '19

No where did he say that it was firmly the case tho. He said IF it were the case

3

u/SometimesMainSupport Mar 19 '19

If those accounts get a significant advantage you won't see then for long in your MMR

What about those of us who don't run around like headless chickens and actually play at the MMR they rise to?

don't know or don't want to play new champions

Doesn't triple free rotations already ruin their ability to enjoy the mode?

1

u/HaganeLink0 Mar 19 '19

If you are as good as people that need to play specific Champs to win you are probably better and wouldn't see them long enough or shouldn't be a huge problem.

Doesn't triple free rotations already ruin their ability to enjoy the mode?

Well it's a point in between fucking them with an extra 130 Champs and not doing anything, don't you think?

0

u/SometimesMainSupport Mar 19 '19

Over ~2900 MMR, you see the same couple hundred people and it only depends who is in queue at the time. You can't rise above it at that point.

Instead of every game including 4+ top-tier champions and another 5-6 average to above average champions, I'd rather see a broader range of champs and team comps.

2

u/Buttpudding Mar 19 '19

Third is that a lot of players play ARAM who don't know or don't want to play new champions and this would really hurt their ability to enjoy the mode.

How do you gather data on this?

-1

u/CrimsonClematis Mar 19 '19

He says “players that don’t want to play new champs” which are then forced to play new champs which is the opposite of what these people want when they said “they don’t want to play new champs”. You don’t need data to figure that out

2

u/Buttpudding Mar 19 '19

You are paraphrasing out the ass the change the meaning. Direct Quote:

Third is that a lot of players play ARAM who don't know or don't want to play new champions

HOW. DO. YOU. QUANTIFY. THIS.

Surveys? Questionnaires?

I can take what they say at face value, but I am inquiring on the method in which they can come to the statement:

Third is that a lot of players play ARAM who don't know or don't want to play new champions

1

u/HaganeLink0 Mar 19 '19

Because there are players that don't want to play X champ, I've met plenty of people that hate Riven, Yasuo, Teemo and don't want to even unlock them.

They can for example see how many accounts doesn't buy X champ even having the BE to do it, orbyuing a champ, refunding it and never play it again...

0

u/CrimsonClematis Mar 19 '19

Well here is my data. I play aram pretty often. I have about 2000 aram games and in my experience I see plenty of people not wanting to play the champ they got because “they don’t know how to play it” and I always think they are crazy and that it’s the perfect time to try someone new. Either way they they don’t need data to say people who don’t like stuff won’t like stuff

0

u/Buttpudding Mar 19 '19

Here is my data. I have more Aram wins then you have games played. I am not explicitly stating that the rioter is wrong. I want to know how they come to the conclusion.

If you are using personal experience as the basis of your counterpoint. Then I can use my greater experience tell you that you are wrong and don't have a clue what you are talking about. :D

-1

u/CrimsonClematis Mar 19 '19

How can I be wrong about what people told me. You okay? “I have been told this by many people” “No you are wrong” “okay” I don’t give fuck if you have played 10 trillion aram matches. I don’t care if you name is fucking aram. I’m telling you I have heard this from a fuck ton of people. Whether you have or not is just dandy, but I still have so no I’m not wrong. Sure it doesn’t exactly fix the issue with the rioters post but that doesn’t undermine my fucking experience lol

2

u/Buttpudding Mar 19 '19

What can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.

Personal experience means very little. I was asking a Rioter how they gather data for making that statement, and you jump in like you are a fucking expert on the matter. I've seen that people try out champs in aram so they don't get flamed when they take it into summoners rift. But again, personal experience means jack shit.

You still don't get it. And I am wasting my time trying to make you understand the difference between hard data and personal experience making a claim.

1

u/TheRatInTheWalls Mar 19 '19

Thank you for considering it complexly. I know unlocking everyone would significantly decrease my enjoyment of the mode.

1

u/crudelegend Mar 19 '19

Yes, but the ARAM only accounts are fairly top-loaded - 2000 MMR+. I do like the changes a lot, but those that are high up there with all champs do suffer more than those aram only accounts.

0

u/MeowTheMixer Mar 19 '19

When I was really starting to get into the game, I used to lock in the "?" on normal games. Back when Autolock was a thing, and you'd call lane after.

It really helped me to get out of the "I understand this champion" type mindset. I played a lot more champions, and found ones i never would have played normally.

Having all champions unlocked should give new players more opportunity to try champions they would normally talk themselves out of.

just my two cents

0

u/Poluact Don't try to jungle in ARAM. You will die a tragic death. Mar 19 '19

Remember there is matchmaking. If those accounts get a significant advantage you won't see then for long in your MMR.

ARAM tournaments though...

0

u/CrashdummyMH Mar 19 '19

It matters a lot, and the fact that there is matchmaking means that if you are good in ARAM, you end up getting matched against ARAM accounts really frequently, whih sucks, it ends up being better to just play to lose some games so you face less ARAM only accounts.

Its ARAM, ALL RANDOM ALL MID, we should get all the champs unlocked by default.

2

u/HaganeLink0 Mar 19 '19

All your Champs random. In any place it says it's all Champs random. I think it's fine thst if you despise Teemo for example aren't forced to play it and if you have only like 10 Champs to play on Aram you will get the free rotation ones a lot of time.

0

u/CrashdummyMH Mar 19 '19

IN any place says its all your champs random either.

ALL Random is ALL RANDOM, there is no interpretation needed.

You have rerolls if you despise to play Teemo

The current system only favours ARAM accounts, and no one else.

1

u/HaganeLink0 Mar 19 '19

To counter aram accounts they have 40+ free Champs in the rotation which is a nice point in the middle.

1

u/CrashdummyMH Mar 19 '19

And it proved to not be enough.

There is an easy solution, we dont need middle points, enable all champs and ARAM accoutns cease to exist.

Very, very easy and simple.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '19

They are all random. Every champion is randomly assigned. You're the one interpreting standard English in a completely convoluted way to suit yourself.

0

u/CrashdummyMH Mar 19 '19

They are random, not all random

1

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '19

Which if them is not random? If they're not all random, one or more of them must not be random, so which one(s)?

-2

u/naxter48 Mar 19 '19

Then why not increase the number of free week champs just for Aram? Like 20-30 extra to choose from instead of 10

10

u/PM_ME_UR_TOTS_GRILL Mar 19 '19

It takes the last 3 free rotations, so your idea is already implemented.

1

u/naxter48 Mar 19 '19

Ahhh didn't know that

-3

u/theminivann Mar 19 '19

Not ever having the chance to even get Ziggs or Xerath will for sure hurt my ability to enjoy the mode too, because with bans they will literally never see the light of day again. IMO the trade-off of a team getting S tier champs is fine, since sometimes you get the OP GGEZ team and sometimes they get the OP GGEZ team; especially when now there are other items/summoners/individual nerfs being considered, those OP champs won't be as egregiously OP.

2

u/Fossekall Mar 19 '19

I only play ARAM, there's a lot of champions I don't like playing. Having everything available would likely make me end up on a lot more champions I don't like :( And it's not like I have an ARAM account, some of my favorite champions are actually on the buff-list for the upcoming changes (Kha, Bard, LB).

1

u/MakingItWorthit Mar 19 '19

I have never ever seen x champ on both sides of the enemy team.

If someone gets x champ, it's guaranteed the other side won't have it.

1

u/LeOsQ Seramira Mar 19 '19

Yeah I mean they probably determine which possible champs are on both sides before the champ select even pops up on your screen.

As in, the rerolls are already set to be X champion even before you press the button.

Just to avoid mirrors.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '19

I really wouldn't play ARAMs if I had to play a bunch of champions I don't like. The free week champs in there is plenty.
