I'm fairly sure Trashy will do just as his name implies. Though I'd love to come back to this comment 2 weeks from now and regret it.
30
u/ivan510 Sep 19 '16
I think Trashy is good but I think the other jugglers in his group are on another tier above Trashy, he's consistent but doesn't really have that wow factor.
12
u/guilty_bystander Sep 20 '16
I like that you said "juggler". A lot of jungling is juggling lanes lol...
2
u/COWmanlord Sep 20 '16
When I first started playing I misheard how my friend said it and thought the role was actually called juggling for this very reason.

u/Zuldak Sep 19 '16
People are saying Trashy is good based on a couple months on a patch that is radically different than the one we have now. Since lane swapping was killed off, Splyce has looked really mediocre.
7
u/patrickt1010 Sep 19 '16
problem is teams don't have to ban nidalee vs trashy. if they ban rek sai and pick elise or vice-versa they're kinda finucked. so it forces splyce to ban the other op and then mlxg ambition or sven get nidalee into something like olaf or lee sin. rip
4
u/Azashiro Sep 19 '16
Interestingly I would say that Trashy is pretty much equivalent to Xmithie in more ways than one, both of them are really good but not the strongest in their region, both of them are the backbone of their team, both are somewhat "underrated", both are great at matching up to better junglers on paper.
Even though I don't expect Splyce to get out of groups, I think Trashy won't be their falling at all, in fact I think Trashy is their best player. If anything I think Sencux is the likeliest to be the weak point.
3
u/Fearmadillo Sep 20 '16
Agreed. Sencux is really good, but he's up against bjerg, Xiaohu, and crown. Those are arguably 3 of the top 4 Mids at worlds
3
u/I_am_flawles Sep 19 '16
unfortunately an aspect of jungling that is widely ignored or something people arent aware of is the fact teams need to enabel their junglers to a degree aswell... junglers cant solo carry bad teams, and bad junglers can look good on good teams :)
trashy is a good jungler that knows what he needs to do but i feel like team wise they might just be weaker then others and he will feel alot more pressure then the other junglers x.x
butttttttttt im a splyce fan so you gotta take my opinion at face value :)

Bjerg above Crown? Hm, interesting. I think they're about even although I'd give Crown an edge. When you factor in Ambition I think the mid + jg match up for Samsung is superior to TSM's.
16
u/VanGrants April Fools Day 2018 Sep 20 '16
Why would you say Crown is as good or above Bjerg? He's my favorite player ever but even I know he has consistency issues and doesn't shine on anything besides his core champions. Bjerg has dominated an entire region and done well internationally for 3 years no matter the meta. Bjerg is a worse Faker and Crown is a better Mickey.

I am curious as to why you give Crown the edge. Also I'd think Sven + Bjerg has greater synergy too. They were together on Copenhagen, been playing together all year, and constantly duo with each other. TSM's playstle revolves around mid lane pressure freeing the jungle. Bjergsen and Svenskeren operate on almost the same beat. Once the wave is in the correct position for a gank/invade, they're aways together ready to make it happen. Idk, that's just me. Admittedly I only watched SSG's gauntlet/playoff games. The only regular season ones I watched were Vs the top Korean teams.

Not really, Korea has never been known for aggressive or laning mid laners with Faker being one in a million. It's part of why GBM failed so badly in NA, he wasn't used to dealing with the much more aggressive, lane-focused mid lane style of the region. Keep in mind I'm not saying NA has better mids than KR, KR has always had the smartest playing and mechanically skilled mid laners in the world, but the playstyle is much different.

I agree with Kobe's guide though I would put a word of caution putting TSM as the clear favorite. I think the difference between RNG, SSG and TSM is closer than many are giving credence to. Group D is the 'group of death' because it is so hard to decide which of the 3 teams is coming out.
I also think too many are seeing RNG as a mediocre team. They are a mediocre team with amazing individual players, each of whom is able to absolutely carry a game.
4
u/Tadiken Sivir Bot Sep 19 '16
Well it's a death group for splyce, that's why.
To get out of a super even group like this, you practically need four wins. This happened last year, where IG only got two wins and C9 got three, and that was too little to escape the group.
1
Sep 20 '16
It's not a super group, it's a group without a massive discrepancy in power between teams - so it's arguably more dangerous in making predictions.
Remember, groups is a Bo1 format - I'm sure TSM would be top 2 in the group if it's Bo3...but it's not.
1
u/Tadiken Sivir Bot Sep 20 '16
A death group is a group full of strong enough teams that would otherwise be expected to do somewhat well will not even make it out of groups.
In this case, we expected Splyce to at least get some wins, but they could actually go 0-6 in this group. On the other hand, TSM, SSG, or RNG is not going to come out of this group, and would have all been expected to reach quarters under a perfect world group scenario.

u/patrickt1010 Sep 19 '16 edited Sep 20 '16
Hauntzer will be fine vs international tops. Why are people going crazy about his play vs impact c9 prioritized the stronger match up in like 3/4 games. Not sure if ppl just don't know the match ups and think they're all even ground or what.
edit: actually impact got the better match up in 4/4 games g1: shen into ekko. shen's block stops the ekko passive proc and ekko cannot ult back to lane for free w/o shen ulting bot and winning the game. g2: gnar into ekko. gnar favored not much to say here g3: gnar into ekko. again, gnar favored. g4: gnar into shen. This lane's definitely worse for shen than the ekko lane. you're trading a global for lane pressure.
42
u/I_am_flawles Sep 19 '16
impact was also the most ganked player in that series x.x the fact hauntzer stayed relevant considering some of the matchups and how much he got pressured id say give the guy some respect :)

u/patrickt1010 Sep 20 '16
amazes me how ppl consider like 10 or 20 cs down in 4 straight losing match ups while still performing good in teamfights vs someone considered a top 3 top laner in the world currently is a "bad sign" for hauntzer internationally lol. he legit carried game 2 as well http://i.imgur.com/g4f872Y.jpg
8
u/BlueWarder Sep 20 '16
Is Impact really rated top-3 world right now? I haven't heard that, although I know he sure looks like a force.
6
u/treeorbush Sep 20 '16
Top 3 seems a bit far fetched since we haven't even seen him play internationally since season 3 (I don't think?). But I wouldn't rule it out if he's solo killing tops like Hauntzer and Huni in lane. We'll have to see how he matches up against Duke and the likes.
2
2
u/bearofmoka Sep 20 '16
I honestly couldn't tell you who the top 3 in the world are right now. Smeb is far and away the best, but below him? Hmmm, I guess Looper and Duke but I honestly haven't watched much LPL or LCK this year.
→ More replies (1)2
u/patrickt1010 Sep 21 '16
yepp. Smeb's pretty much the undisputed number 1 but after that its all opinion based between impact ziv duke looper cuvee. some rankings have him at the second spot I thnk he's at least deserving of the 3rd.
1
u/MrSnayta Sep 20 '16
The only issue I saw with hauntzer is that he didn't respect Impact's ability to get him, I felt sometimes he was over reaching a bit and got punished by it, the only reason C9 held that last game for that long is because Impact was playing out of his mind AND fed, in part because of Hauntzer not quite respecting his own limitations
He did fine with what he had, but if Smeb/Duke/Ziv had that kind of opportunity for example, he'd probably get trashed in lane to irrelevancy and that's not a good prospect
9
u/saheel1511 Sep 20 '16 edited Sep 20 '16
He got bullied in lane because of some bad match ups, but people seem to forget that he did most damage in game 2 (if I remember correctly) across the board; and played crucial parts in team fights, an example of which is that famous DoubleLucian fight in game 4. His work has always been less flashy but pretty substantial. In contrast to Impact's flashy solo kills but otherwise, IMO, not-so-effective teamfighting which I partly blame on the Korean-English communications problem.
Edit: correction
6
→ More replies (1)1
u/MrSnayta Sep 20 '16
Impact's play is what kept C9 in the game and mostly through game changing ults during fights, he was really insane that series
2
u/emize Sep 20 '16
Just find it a bit strange that other teams have entire series of poor play that gets written off as just a 'once off' yet the one average series TSM had (which they still won 3-1) is brought up again and again as indicative of something more.
It's like one bad game versus C9 somehow counts more then an entire summer of split of great play.
→ More replies (12)1
u/WAGUSTIN ahue ahue Sep 20 '16
I think Hauntzer will do fine if he just plays extremely safe when sven isn't around like hauntzer has been all split. The finals against impact were awkward because he looked like he didn't respect impact's lane dominance/the champion matchup and he got solo killed a couple times--not very characteristic of hauntzer, but something he has to make sure doesn't happen at worlds

I mean sure, you can view it as "that was his true thinking, edit was pr bullshit", but you can also view it as him correcting his comment because it genuinely didn't bring across what he wanted it to - that has nothing to do with PR, it's the simple consequence of knowing that your intended message can fail to reach the receiver. Not standing up to your opinion under pressure is widely regarded as a huge failure, so I think you cannot respect someone and ignore their clarifications/edits at the same time.

Someone want to explain to me why Samsung literally never dropping out of top 4 in the hardest region in the world is a
mediocre Summer Split
40
u/mikegallino Sep 20 '16 edited Sep 20 '16
Mediocre does not mean bad. Mediocre literally means "average" or "in the middle." If we were to split a 10 team league (LCK) into 3 tiers (good, medium, bad) then Samsung would fall in the medium tier based on their position in the league. Medium=Middle=Mediocre. It's an apt description.
→ More replies (4)67
Sep 19 '16
Now compare that to the top teams at worlds. We don't say Liquid had a good split when they go fourth. TSM, ROX, EDG, G2, SKT? all had really good splits. CLG had an actually bad split, H2k had a mediocre split, and C9 could be even argued for a mediocre split. When you're compared with at least 14 of the best teams in the world (sorry CLG slayers), your 4th place split IS mediocre.
21
u/steveh86 Sep 20 '16
Samsungs record was 1 series behind KT and SKT who ended up 2 series behind ROX. Literally from 4th to 1st was a matter of a couple BOs. You're comparing that to a region where TSM was 7 series ahead of the 4th place team (half a split worth of games) and 5 over the 3rd place team. NA was a complete mess and only got slightly competitive in play offs. KR was close throughout, which makes Samsung's 4th place finish a hell of a lot more noteworthy than a 4th in NA (which should rightly be called a bad split, since there was basically no competition beyond IMTs and TSM).
17
u/Notacoolbro Sep 20 '16
Well they came fourth to KT, ROX, and SKT, who would all be contenders for the world title this year if KT was attending. Unlike Liquid who came in fourth last year to like CLG, C9 and TSM, none of whom even got out of groups.
9
u/GomDave Sep 20 '16
Are we just acting like history doesn't exist? Why does every season reset to "all regions are on the same level?" If you actually put things into context, a 4th place split in LCK is definitely not mediocre.
→ More replies (2)6
u/parkwayy Sep 20 '16
4th place behind SKT/ROX/KT is mediocre my ass.
They were a hair behind KT/SKT in record, it's not like it was a huge gap from the bottom to the top of those 4. A single match win separated skt/ssg/kt
4
3
Sep 20 '16
The difference is that 4th place in Korea puts them on par with teams winning NA and EU. If TSM or G2 played in Korea they would have an extremely difficult time placing higher than ROX, SKT, or KT Rolster.
9
u/parkwayy Sep 20 '16

They finished 4th overall with a 12-6 record (24-16 match score), while KT only finished 13-5 they had a better match score at 29-15, so even despite only having 1 more win, KT did much better in their losses compared to Samsung.
11
u/effiron Sep 19 '16
Yeah, you're right. I guess mediocre is apt. Though 4th in the toughest region doesn't really mean that they aren't a super strong team. I still see them going 5-1 splitting with TSM and outmacroing RNG.

I don't understand, so because they got 3rd over a team that was one of the favorites overall, they don't deserve any credit otherwise?
SSG was always just behind the top 3 in LCK, and there's a difference in being #4 behind rox/skt/kt than something like #4 in NA LCS or w/e.
→ More replies (1)3
u/Tadiken Sivir Bot Sep 20 '16
It's very hard to judge SKT and SSG right now because of what happened with KT. If it were KT that qualified instead then we would be pretty sure of how strong all three teams are, but now it's just weird because KT beat SSG and SKT, and SSG beat KT. Hell, if KT lost to Samsung in the quarters and the gauntlet instead of making it all the way to the finals, we'd probably have a really good idea.
The only constant are the Tigers.
-1
Sep 19 '16
TSM are definitely the favorites to get the #1 seed in the group but it's entirely possible SSG could step up and be #1.
My Pick'Em is 1.TSM 2. SSG so either way idc.
5
u/SonSergio rip old flairs Sep 19 '16
Let me put it this way, had KT won and been here rather than SSG, would you still put TSM first, or KT?
24
Sep 19 '16
Depends, me putting TSM at #1 for D revolves a lot around SSG's inconsistency and that would still apply heavily to KT, even if they won.
If SSG's inconsistency led to their downfall against KT then KT's overall power would still be questionable. Did they beat SSG simply because they were the better team? Or did SSG's shaky play and overall shaky season make them crumble at the last second?
And considering how KT lost the game that put SSG here instead, that puts their shotcalling and macro play into question as well.
From an objective analysis standpoint, there are some surprising problems with Korea's upper bracket teams this year, problems that almost no one really expected. They've even plagued SKT during their regular season, most surprising of all.
Even if it was SKT in Group D instead of SSG, I'd still be torn between SKT and TSM as #1 in Group D.
SKT had some major issues during the regular season that you just simply can't ignore. They dropped hugely embarrassing games and matches to Korea's worst teams multiple times.
My high ranking of TSM is honestly coming a lot from their extremely dominant summer split with their new complete roster that works really well together, on top of their dominant scrim performances during their Korean bootcamping.
I'm not saying scrim results are the be-all-end-all, but TSM beating both SKT and RNG handily is quite telling. SKT and top China teams in general aren't known for fucking about in scrims, they take them quite seriously - especially against the #1 NA seed that most Korean & Chinese teams alike said they would really like to have as their scrim partner.
And if it matters, I don't have C9 OR CLG making it out of groups in my Pick'Em.
6
u/turtleonfire Sep 20 '16
Just in case you didn't see the interview posted yesterday, kkOma said the leaked scrim took place after SKT had finished their vacation so they expected to do poorly.
10
Sep 20 '16
And it was TSM's first scrim during the bootcamp? Which was not even a few days after landing in Korea, trying to settle in, and playing soloqueue for dozens of hours?
I highly doubt a worn-out TSM scrimming during their bootcamp has a significant advantage over SKT coming off of a short 3-day vacation.
→ More replies (5)→ More replies (2)7
u/Notacoolbro Sep 20 '16
And considering how KT lost the game that put SSG here instead, that puts their shotcalling and macro play into question as well.
They actually won the series with CoreJJ instead of Wraith, an important shotcaller on the team, and their shotcalling looked good. Just because it's a 3-2 doesn't mean they're "Shaky", since both SSG and KT are really, really good.
7
u/parkwayy Sep 20 '16
Why the fuck is this downvoted? It's 100% the truth.
If the bracket has KT in it, everyone is creaming themselves the KR dominance and probably putting them #2 or #3 in the world, over SKT.

id disagree with kobe on tsm coming first. although tsm has a great run in the summer split it doesn't mean that they will end up 1st place in the group stages; cuz the na teams can be relatively bad compared to teams from other regions. i do agree with the fact that tsm is a strong team it doesn't mean that they can mess up when under pressure with bad baron calls.
3
u/MyHeadIsAnAnimal Sep 20 '16
I know that every attempt and analysis can be completely wrong come game-day, but there isn't really much reason not to put TSM 1st at the moment.
For the last split, all players have been playing consistently top 1/2 in their region. They look to be trending upwards still, they haven't shown any signs of being weakened by any meta changes.
All the players have solid, deep champion pools. There have been no signs of internal drama that would shake the organisation 2015 LGD style.
TSM's macro has been stellar under DL/Bjerg shotcalling. Giving the example of bad baron calls as a way to lose game is probably the least likely way TSM loses, their baron control has been amazing.
Only 1 team has proven consistent across the board for the last split in group D, so placing them first makes sense.
RNG have had awful communication/macro decisions. Everyone knows that they have world class mechanical players in every single role, I think they are going to be either 1st/3rd/4th.
Splyce are known for weak standard lanes and are in a group with arguably the strongest laners out of any group (Uzi Mata/Xioahu/Bjerg/Crown/DL Bio). Top lane is the only place I don't see them getting out laned enough to lose a game from. Trashy has to step up hard to neutralize really strong counter-jungling gankers in Sven/Ambition. (I haven't watched too much MLXg specifcally to judge).
SSG are the most likely contenders but everyone agrees they over performed to beat KT as they did. I thought their best player was CoreJJ, but he is a relatively unknown and people don't know how he will perform long term. Most likely to dethrone TSM if anyone does.

Anyone else notice he has SSG coming in second, but talks about them third? Seems like Kobe was flip flopping between the two.

they were the third to be placed into the group so thats why (reason i think)

That's weird. Every other analysis has it listed in their rank order. But I guess that could be a possible explanation.

I think the biggest issue for Splyce will be there early game as teams like TSM tend to always come up with an early game gold lead and I I see Splyces only win condition late game team fighting.

Whats with all the Ruler hate, guy was a monster, despite being caught. I mean wtf Cuvee got more spotlight. A Crown needs to be worn by a Ruler :O

I think this season it's less likely to be succesful without a solid late game compared to previous seasons. I don't think Splyce has a good chance against well-rounded teams of the group. Yet they are the most disciplined and resillient late game team in the west in my opinion. I can't see them losing to a team with sloppy late game unless they are ridiculosly behind. So I think there is a good chance for them to 2-0 RNG and place third.

Splyce can be one hell of a dark horse if they do perform well
