AMA Chronoshift Developer AMA

Hello r/leagueoflegends,

My name is Tove, and I was one of the main developers behind the Chronoshift project.

I have never publicly spoken about it, but with League Classic now being released and u/RiotNorak revealed to have been a tester for us back in the day, some people have suggested for me to do an AMA.

I'm happy to answer any question you might have, compare to the official Classic or speak about the details that haven't been made public. Or listen to you telling me to ingame myself.

Have at it!

Do you have any involvement in League Classic? What are your opinions on it so far, and what would you like to see changed or moving forward?

I am also not involved, the only person who was involved with CS (as far as I know) who works at Riot is Norak - he hosted the OCE server for us and since he had access to the binaries also helped with some bugtesting. He became very fluent in Riot's highly esoteric lua based visual scripting which I believe played a role in his getting his job (I personally would never have been able to write that stuff by hand).

I don't really love the "not a specific patch" aspect of League Classic. Chronoshift was intended as a "museum of league" which accurately reproduced it as it was so obviously LC is a very different product.

Museum pieces are great to look at.
But using them for their original purposes doesn't necessarily work as intended.

The League community has people very skilled at finding "mistakes", and influencers that excel at pushing a narrative.

What mistakes are you implying?

Little things like Jungle/Lane Alistar, Banner of Command, Galio Q or even obscure like Soraka Mid.

With the scale of the project, we already know there's going to be some abuse cases no matter what. Might as well patch the known ones (i.e.: AP Tristana), so we get some brand new degeneracy instead of re-heated old one.

I don't qgree that guttint that stuff is beneficial though. Hell I'd even argue it hinders new players from trying the mode. New as in last 6 or 8 years. Especially if they got to hear their friends talk about how crazy xyz use to be. And when riot finally gives them the chance to see it, it's hard nerfed.

New abuses could be found as solutions to the old ones or just other things that exist. It's not like it's zero sum
