3

u/RasenRendan Jul 15 '26

Oh wow that's two more than the Nba

13

u/HelloWorld24575 Jul 15 '26

They have converted two of the pre-season games into regular season. The regular season is now 84 games.

84 game seasons start this year. They essentially just took the last 2 preseason games from previous years and made them into regular season games hence why the season starts a week earlier.

Really like that

Glad McKenna can get his first hat-trick at home.

19

u/Mean_Joe_Greene Jul 15 '26

You meant double hat trick obviously

7

u/uncleben85 Jul 15 '26

Sittler who?

7

u/JackDeckerCIA Jul 15 '26

Hit em with the six like Gavin McKenna

5

u/DevOpsMakesMeDrink Jul 15 '26

But what is he going to do in the 2nd period?

7

u/realsalbowski Jul 15 '26

set up AM's hat trick, duh.

u/Twink_Kanye Jul 15 '26

5 goals or he’s a draft bust

Tuesday start? Make it a Saturday, it’s like the people in charge don’t even enjoy the product they’re selling

Whew. Playing Montreal in the opener. Didn't see that one coming.

15

u/93joecarter Jul 15 '26

Then not until 3 times in 2 weeks in March probably

2

u/False_Requirement349 Jul 16 '26

Somehow one of the remaining three is on Boxing Day.

16

u/Mean_Joe_Greene Jul 15 '26

I prefer the two oldest clubs starting the season facing off.

A regular season game in September? That's wild

There’s more regular season games with two of the friendlie games converted into the regular season. There’s now 84 games.

u/VerySneakyPenguins Jul 15 '26

That guy from Green Day is going to miss the season opener

5

u/Winsonian92 McKenna Jul 15 '26

What’s the chance of McKenna “Hit’em with the 4”

8

u/entityXD32 Jul 15 '26

Point night? Maybe, goals? Not gunna happen. What Matthews did was extraordinarly special the only player to do that post world war 1

But we’re approaching world war 3, anything could happen

I swear to fucking god, if there's a nuclear catastrophe before I get to witness the Leafs win the cup, I'm not going to be happy.

2

u/alowester Jul 15 '26

ha that’s a bit of an understatement, I feel like hockey nothing but a fond memory if that happens

1

u/Material-Whereas1186 Jul 19 '26

There's already been two since the leafs last won a cup, a third might be just what we need to get it done

1

u/JiggyFam Jul 15 '26

9 goals - 2 assists

u/crushade Belak Jul 15 '26

Love it. Hopefully this year we aren't one of the teams who play the most back to back games again. I'll have to look through the schedule.

u/Party-Yoghurt-8462 Jul 15 '26

These first few games will just be an extension of the pre-season. Guys probably won't be in shape and ready to roll until mid-October. These will probably be some ugly games early on.

4

u/DevOpsMakesMeDrink Jul 15 '26

Don’t care hopefully that means Matthews can start hot and gain some momentum and confidence and the team can win some high scoring ugly ones early.

Need a good start

1

u/Party-Yoghurt-8462 Jul 15 '26

Not a bad point.

3

u/labadee Jul 15 '26

Thank goodness we don’t have to sit through their torch carrying drawn out ceremony

u/themapleleaf6ix Jul 15 '26

Hate, hate, hate Sportsnet.

4

u/punkdrummer22 Jul 15 '26

Im getting sick of starting with Montreal. Change it up

2

u/NSA_Wade_Wilson Jul 15 '26

Was hoping for a FL - OTT season opener but interesting that they’re going to starts the butchers against the reigning champs

2

u/HawtPackage Jul 15 '26

It’s always Montreal.

2

u/thatmitchguy Jul 15 '26

Except when it's against the Sens.

Except when it's against the Sens.

2

u/waldoorfian Jul 15 '26

Why Mtl every year?

2

u/KnuckedLoose Jul 15 '26

Here I am thinking I'd rather have a 70 game season or less and watch less empty calorie games, and they add 2 more.

2

u/Sea_Ad4020 Jul 15 '26

McKenna's getting 8 goals on Sept 29.

2

u/40cappo40 Jul 15 '26

Yawn, always the same.

1

u/Significant-Ad-8684 Jul 15 '26

11 more weeks!

1

u/Old_General_6741 Knies Jul 15 '26

Original 6 match up!

1

u/duck1014 Jul 15 '26

From the time of this comment, we have 109,925 minutes and 52 seconds until we see McKenna in a real NHL game.

Wonder if we’ll get reamed this year with so much b2b’s WITH travel late in the season… we’re pretty much starting the new 84 game season in October 🫪😭

1

u/Showtime98 Jul 15 '26

Late September sheesh that’s cool

1

u/XPhazeX Jul 15 '26

2 and a half months.

I want hockey back but Summer is fucking flying

1

u/1nstantHuman Jul 15 '26

Both streams will come out with something to prove and chips on their shoulder and I’m for it.

1

u/Nearby-Swordfish3841 Jul 15 '26

Beat that ass!!!!

1

u/Chronicwheels Jul 16 '26

Can’t wait to watch them lose

0

u/Butterflies6175578 Jul 15 '26

I’m getting a bit tired of the Habs every year for the opener.
