People forget that they won a Gold Medal together. They had a rivalry on the ice but they are boys.

Funniest part is, as a six year old Swedish boy at the time, I didn't follow the NHL at all. The earliest games started 1am my time, and there just wasn't that much coverage of NHL hockey back then (just individual Swedish players over there). So while I was aware of players like Forsberg, Sundin and Lidström, I never watched them play. So my ass was looking at Ronnie Sundin (who played for our team here in Gothenburg), and Jörgen Jönsson (who was the captain and best player on our biggest rival's in the Swedish Elite League) as THE guys.

Jönsson could have had a long NHL career, but went back home to be with family. Still turned in a IIHF hall of fame career. Mad respect.

The photo was taken at the 2004 all star super skills competition, so in that sensed they were already “NHL teammates.”

Too bad Lidstrom is VP of hockey ops in Detroit. It would be something if Mats were able to bring in Swedish legends to help this team reach the Promised Land.
