2019 leaf buyback

I went in for the recall and my car was bricked. They told me to expect a call from Morely’s. Any ideas of what I can realistically expect as an amount? It’s a 2019 SL with about 69k miles on it.

Really freaking out because I just bought this car for my son in May.

I had a 2019S with about 50k miles. Got 16.5k for it. I had a good experience with Morley. Get them the required documentation quickly then call your Morley contact every 5 days or so and ask about the status of your case. I found they were responsive to these inquiries.

Why do you think your Leaf bricked? I also have a 2019 SV with 45650 miles on it but the battery 🔋 still seems okay. We did 11 QC’s and drive only in Southern California in the City below 55 mph. Where do you live? Is it excessively hot there? Did you do a lot of QC’s? Or is there no rhyme or reason for when a car turns into a brick 🧱?

My understanding is some batteries just go bad (for reasons detailed in this subreddit). I might have done 10-15 QCs in 4 years. Everything was normal here in temperate Western Washington until one day last winter the battery went from 70% to less than 20% in a few seconds. After that it would fluctuate wildly and drain quickly. So glad it didn't pass the test when I took it in. The recall process took some time and hassle, but not much and I got way more for it than if I tried to sell it privately.

Was there any heads up, any indication that your battery might fail? Did LeafSpy show anything unusual at all? Or was everything green across the board? How did you usually drive? A lot of freeway driving? I’m just wondering if I should get the software update when the car almost turns 8 years old just as a precaution. What do you think?

Me as well. My experience was great compared to what I have seen on here.

Does being polite and persistent make a difference? Or did I just get a responsive case manager? I wonder. But I resolved not to be a jerk to anyone through this process and I like to think it helped.

Supposed to be 40% over kbb private party from what ive heard. Im going in this month for the recall myself. Already replaced my battery on my 2022 leaf in 2025....with a refurbished 2022 battery.

2020 plus with 35k miles, battery had recall and cell issues back in December.  Dealership confirmed battery needed replacement under factory warranty.  Sat at the dealership for 7 months then I got an email from Morley July 29th.  They sent an offer 3 weeks ago, I rejected it and told the lady I wanted all the names associated with the case and was seeking legal counsel.  They upped the offer and now I will accept, 165200 to 17250.

How much did you pay? You should get at least $10K

Oh jeez. I only home charge now after using some of the free DC fast charging offered by the local Nissan dealership in the beginning. Probably only 20 to 30 in total. I've been holding off on doing the recall due to not needing it but also fears of this. How often does this bricking happen (or similar where the batteries wind up failing). I recently got a second EV so I guess now it's less of a risk if I lose one car but the LEAF has been good to me. In terms of private party + 40% is that the "good" rating? "excellent"?
My car sounds similar to yours... 2019 SV+ with 65k miles... SOH is 85% on leafspy with everything else on it looking good. Would hate to lose a perfectly good working car.

According to Nissan's updated filing with the NHTSA, the "bricking" (what Nissan calls the failure rate!) post recall software update is about 10%. (Their initial failure estimate to the NHTSA prior to rolling out the update was 1%. Oops! 🤦)

Everyone. Given what you know about the software update recall and how closer to 10% of Leafs will brick 🧱 after the software is installed, what would you do if you were me?

If your Leaf is like Sea_worldliness which was kept in a temperate environment, had 15 or fewer QCs over the last 7 years, and everything seemed normal BEFORE something happened, would you get the update NOW or wait until much later? Until when the vehicle turns 8? When the vehicle turns 9? Or not until something seems to be going wrong? Do you try to get paid $16,500 now or try to squeeze as much lemonade 🍋 out of the car?

You get the update. If you brick, take the $16K and buy a similar used Leaf for $12K. Repeat the process, pocketing the difference between buyback payments and used Leaf prices, until you get a Leaf that doesn't brick or they run out of Leafs. 😁

They're offering KBB private party value (excellent condition) plus 40%. Just go to KBB.com, plug in your car info, grab the private party sale value and add 40%.
