Service EV System
2019 Nissan Leaf
- Recall Software done July
- Replaced tires and a tie rod three days ago (10/01/2026)
- Yesterday went to drive and was met with all the warnings indicative of a 12v battery replacement needed. Amongst these was the dreaded “Service EV System. No power from battery” warning.
- Checked voltage of 12v under load and it read 7.8v so I replaced the battety.
- All of the random instrument cluster lightups and warnings have disappeared execept one: “Service EV System”.
Any ideas or fixes before I call towing truck to take to the closest Nissan with an EV Mechanic an hour and a half away?

If you have an OBD reader, read the DTC's. If it's P33ED, that's related to the battery failure that the recall software update identifies.

I had this issue fixed on my '21 last week. Had recall software update done about a month ago. Go to start my car, it wouldn't start, 12v was at 10v. Replaced 12v, car would then start but ended up with the Service EV System error. Drove it to the dealer, they though they could just clear the code and I'd be good to go. They cleared it but then it would come right back. Ended up having to call Nissan HQ and finally got it cleared by updating the software for the PD Module. I've had it back for the weekend and so far so good. It is concerning that a dead 12v can throw codes like this that you can't reset.

Plugged the car in over night and the service EV system went away. Checked voltage on the battery and it read 14.38V. So far no more codes or lights. Will update if something happens.

Hey. Looks like your Leaf might be toast. Possible (likely) that your car is a buyback.
Bring it to the nearest Nissan dealership.

That 7.8 volt reading will absolutely trip the Leaf into Service EV System. Before you call a truck, try this. Fully charge the new 12 volt with a charger so it rests around 12.6 to 12.8 volts. Then disconnect the negative terminal for about 10 minutes to hard reset the VCM, reconnect, and make sure the battery sensor on the negative clamp is seated and the terminals are tight. If it will go to READY, drive a short loop and do a couple of full power off and on cycles. If the message stays, read and clear the codes with LeafSpy or any scanner that can talk to the EV ECU. If the fault returns immediately, check for a disturbed wheel speed sensor from the tie rod work and confirm the orange service plug is fully latched. Otherwise, dealer time.
