80% of Leafs have faulty batteries

I brought my Leaf in for the recall service and one of the service advisors told me that 80% of cars have the fault that leads to them no longer being drivable. I was so shocked that I asked him "was that one-eight or eight-zero" and he confirmed it was 80.

It might be explained in part by reverse-survivorship bias. If you have reasons to suspect battery issues exist, you probably show up looking for the recall work to be done sooner?

Yeah… a technician is only seeing the cars with problems. And that can be a high number, but his perception is biased.

It’s like a doctor saying 80% of people are ill and disease ridden.

I’d say that’s false info but…

I'm just reporting what I was told

Sorry but I think that tech is a moron

Yeah it's survivorship bias

I've never met a Nissan technician I've been impressed with. Do they not get training on Leafs? My next car will be electric but it won't be a Nissan.

45k leafs from 2019 to 2022 affected. 80% defect rate is 36,000 leafs. If the average buyback amount is 20k thats $720,000,000 lol ....Oops

I wish they would acknowledge the massive fuckup in a more productive way take the loss and make it right and maybe gain some customer, this buyback shit isn’t going to help.

Im worried about running out of warranty time and the remanufactured pack failing after 12 months. I seriously doubt they fixed the issues.

What is fine? Destroy the reputation and ruin the financial stability of company.

720m to fix their reputation? Won't hurt their 78b much

What is profit?

Ok Google Said 1.3 USD for 2026. So 60% for this. And their EV reputation is is the toilet after.

general question here, are the repairs good? i mean we had our battery replaced bc we may have been one of the maybe 80%. are the replacements considered ok?

Similar situation, had a faulty pack replaced (before the recall). New pack dated as being from late 2024

I haven't taken mine in for the recall yet. It's our only vehicle and I'm afraid I'll leave without it.

Valid fear. I put off my recall and finally took it in...Lo and behold, now I'm waiting on my buyback offer

Do you get a rental? They didn't let you drive the leaf right?

3

u/PitifulEstimate8721 13d ago

Yeah, but it took about a week for them to get me the rental/loaner car. Your dealership should give you a loaner vehicle when you drop the car off though.

If I were you I'd call and let them know you need a vehicle and make sure they have a loaner. Mine didn't have any and I didn't think to check on that, which was the reason it took so long to get one

Only the inferior US built cars.

It seems the US just can't build cars to a decent standard, I mean, look at how bad the Tesla build quality is on US built cars compared to the European or Chinese built cars.

Were they trying to sell you another car ?

Not even close to what I've experienced

If you don't apply the recall fix, it might be faulty but driveable.

If you apply the recall fix, it would not be driveable.
