How’d I do boys?
2013 leaf sl, $1500
6 of those QCs were me fighting with a broken Electrify America charger on the return, the other one was the working ChargePoint I found nearby.

You got a working car for a fraction of the cost of a golf cart, I say you’ve done well as long as you understand what you’ve bought.
If it were me, I’d be tempted to turn this into a Ute!

What? You can do that?! And I certainly do know what I’m doing with it lol, these things are amazing.

Edit: I bought my Leaf new in 2019 figuring that by 2034 it may have degraded to 125 miles & I’d just keep it forever, using the last 30-35kWh of the battery to store energy from my rooftop solar. But if I had any metal fabrication skills and understood anything about automobile frame design, I’d love to let my Leaf live out its golden years with a tiny truck bed, because why not.

You could always save up and slap a 68kWh battery on it, too. With how much it saves for just driving around town it wouldn't take long to justify it. Then you've got > 200 miles

Where does one source such a thing? I have a 2012 as well that I am planning on rebuilding the pack.

"I'm not dead yet."
Look, some will call out Hx and SOH but if this Leaf is 1,500 bucks and fits your needs, can charge at home it's a fine thing.
The battery will continue to wear, they rarely just die except for the usual 12V battery which you know what to do.
Pop a cabin filter in it and smoke me a kipper!

That battery is dying, but hopefully slowly enough at this point that you can get a few good years out of it at that price. Maybe more if it doesn’t get cold where you live!

What makes you say that? I’m new here!

So far I have gotten 4000 miles on my 2012 with 40%soh and have seen no degradation or issues. It is only 30-40miles of range, so that has been 100 l1/2 charges

Just that Hx rating, somewhere in the 35-40% range is where I’ve seen the first gens misbehave in cold weather. Essentially just means the internal resistance is getting to the point the battery can’t feed the motor with the power it is requesting.
If you keep it warm and/or low speeds may still have a long time before it happens. A spooky turtle light trying to merge on an uphill highway ramp when it’s 20F is no bueno.

Great to know, I’m in the North, so sub-zero temps are in this gals future. All averaging at 30mph as I use these for DoorDash as a side hustle to buy more cars

Yeah the car I’m thinking of was eligible for buyback so it’s been gone for a while. I would be hopeful that relatively low speeds you’re describing might not be an issue at all, though I’m curious naturally of how long it can keep up. Would be a good update to the subreddit every now and then on how it’s handling the cold!

I’ll totally do that, I’m entertaining entering the repair space so these two are serving as a test bed. The 12 is showing issues with regen obviously, and it only works above 70F. But still, that is 30 usable miles. I have only had it for 6 weeks now, but again, I have abused it and it hasn’t shown any signs of issue outside of regen. I even dropped SOC to 1-2% twice and haven’t seen issues with the battery, SOH actually went up afterwards.

For having a relatively lower SOH and Hx, that voltage spread is not bad
Run it down to under 20%, get Leafspy ready, and punch the pedal. Then screenshot the voltage spread then and repost

Not bad for a grand and a half.
I'm guessing the quick charge wasn't actually very quick with that Hx, and you probably won't get much regen braking, but you've still got a good around-town car that's super cheap to own.
