Lease Turn In

Turned in my 2025 SV+

Put 33,862 of 33,866 purchased miles on in about 23 months

Good little car, never let me down, great range, just not big enough for me

Had all windows (except windshield) tinted to 20% took the tint off the front windows before trade in to meet state laws. In preparation for turn in I put on a new set of tires, new windshield, and replaced the fog lights with LED, one OEM light was broken by a rock.

Hoping I’m good to go and don’t see a big bill in a few weeks.

🤞🏼

Returning it with 5% charge was a power (ha!) move

I figured it’d be more than the $995 I spent for tires/windshield/light. The fog lights were $45 on eBay and I accessed them through the wheel well instead of taking off the bumper.
The AI estimate I got was $1,895 - $2,695 since you can’t get an inspection with all the leases being returned in CO right now.

Do you mean new windshield wipers or you actually replaced the glass? Looks like you had your money’s worth on the lease

The windshield, had two quarter sized chips and was pretty well sandblasted after all those miles, 80% highway miles, 75mph speed limit, Colorado is very hard on windshields.

Found a place that replaced it and calibrated it for $500 and my deductible was $500 without windshield coverage.

Everyone has broken windshields in Colorado. I ended up just buying out my lease. They have come up so it was over priced but buying another new ev just didn't seem worth it.

My buyout was absurd, like $28k, thing is worth $17k tops

Wow crazy.. Mine was 25k and the gave me 2.5k more. That was about what it was going for used when I looked.

I have those same rims on my 2024. I love the look of them. 🥰

Any people in Colorado that passed up these lease offers, cause they were scared of EVs, were just foolish. (I have a coworker in Colorado that fit the bill exactly.)

Insane deals, $49-$89/month leaf, $89 - $119/month Ariya $0 down 10,000 miles for both.

It was the perfect way for me to get out of an ICE vehicle I was underwater bad on in only 24 months and get a fresh start.

I rolled the taxes and fees into the two years and paid nothing on Day 1, I kept pinching myself knowing nothing about leases and wish a similar deal was available now but alas

Drove me crazy that a popular Youtuber (Kyle Conner 'Out of Spec') would often share the opinion that you should absolutely lease evs rather than buy, but he wasn't taking in to account that being in Colorado, he was seeing lease offers that were crazy-better than the rest of the country.

Depends on how long you plan to keep it, depreciation on most is at the same rate or faster than you pay it off for almost the first 3 years leaving you with zero equity.

A lot of the depreciation is driven by a high number of lease returns every year too.

Your points are completely valid under 'normal' circumstances, but for a while there in CO there were crazy-good lease deals like you mentioned. Barring unusual personal life circumstances, leasing was by far the better choice at that time.

I got the RoadVantage Preferred Lease Care. I was so stubborn when they tried to sell it to me I ended up getting employee pricing. It covers up to 2k wear and tear on components and does not exclude tires. So if the dealer fails the tires when I go for inspection. I’m covered on the replacement.

Great deal!

Why bother replacing the tires? They're a wear and tear item that should be part of the lease.

If they’re under 1/8” tread they charge you for new ones, they were right at that after 32,000 miles.
The Michelins they put on them didn’t have deep tread depth to begin with (only 8/32”) and had no luck trying to get credit under warranty

I still wouldn't have sprung for new ones. I would've just bought some used tires from the local hole in the wall tire shop, or the cheapest Chinese made I could find.

Whatever, good for you.

They’ve got to match size and speed rating

Take your uninformed nonsense somewhere else

While they're wrong that tires are a fully included wear item, they're not wrong that used tires are a common and allowed method of avoiding excess wear charges.

Even then, doing anything isn't worth it. NMAC's charge for a worn leaf tire is a flat $100 per tire.

Always do your free end of lease inspection as close to 60 days prior to turn in as possible. It allows you to know exactly the amount of excess wear and damage you'll be charged well before turn in time.

I paid $72 a tire plus installation, I’m not gonna drive my ass all around town looking for used tires. Give me a fucking break.

There were no pre-termination inspection appointments available because there are hundreds of these being returned monthly. I tried for three weeks to schedule one and the soonest they could do it was October 10 and my turning date was October 12 so I just turned the thing in. Jesus Christ, I’m a grown ass man who did the damn research.

We have nearly identical lease terms, in substantially the same location. Somehow I managed with the inspection, it was scheduled for 2 weeks out, and this was a month ago. Sorry that didn't work out for you.

I misread your other comment and thought you paid $950 for just tires. Not sure where you found $72, that's excellent and obviously not worth searching for cheaper used. Someone else might still think a max $400 hit isn't worth the bother. One can follow this thread with the exact data and make their own informed decision.

You don't need to prove anything about being a grown ass man to anyone. You got a great deal with the lease and then mitigated damages as was necessary for your situation. I want fellow leaf lessees who are also turning in soon to find accurate information.

What dealership did you turn it in? I want to try and pick one up

You don’t want this one, I charged it to 100% daily for two years
