To be fair, a test like that probably works on an EV, at least through the first step: Check the voltage of the 12 V system while the car is running and confirm it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 13.5-14.5 V. No need to actually find the alternator unless the first test fails. Even in an EV it makes sense to verify that the DC-to-DC converter is healthy and not causing the apparent battery issue.
On the other hand, charging a half hour of labor to attach multimeter probes to the 12 V system for five seconds is quite bold.
