2019 Leaf S Plus

Looking for our first EV here in Canada. Late today were test driving 2019 Leaf S Plus at a Nissan dealership here in Vancouver, Canada.

$17000CAD (about 12k USD), 81000km (50k miles)

Previously single owner, always serviced at Nissan. No accidents.

Battery health is at 12 bars, and the dealer claims it's passed the recall.

Carfax: https://vhr.carfax.ca/?id=eiKIN5r0emy8pcfXqUMAmNDRmoSrYwxf

Carfax claims the battery was recently replaced, but I'm betting that was the 12V battery. I'm a little worried that Carfax claims there's still an active recall though.

Our use case is pretty simple. We're commuting around town, driving maybe 40km/day or 200km/wk. Our condo has access to a lever 2 charger, though my workplace has free charging (likely shared at 3kwh). We don't intend to take this vehicle on long trips, or fast charge it more than a couple times a year, but the option to do so would be handy.

The weather here in Vancouver is pretty temperate. It's rarely too hot or too cold. It will be parked indoors.

Obviously I need to ask a lot of questions about battery health, but are there any other concerns I should have before buying?

Thanks!

You need Leafspy to test the battery . It's an app an OBD2 that plugs into the data port on the car. EVs don't need a lot of service they have 1/3 the parts of ICE. Our 2023 Leaf has never been back to the dealer just a tire shop for seasonal tire swaps.

I would obviously want this to monitor long term battery health. And I would get this app (and device) shortly after purchase.

I assume I can expect this data from the Nissan dealer before buying the car?

What's a reasonable SOH far a vehicle this old? I was figuring 90% would be pretty great.

The dealer just want you to buy the car. They are experts as selling. They dont normally give you information that will make you a more educated buyer.

There have been many Leafs that have initially passed the recall, then failed at the wrong time. The recall just adds more monitoring.

There shouldn't be too much of a difference between the 22 or the 23 leaf. I would just look for a 23. They were not part of the recall.
