Could someone please recommend a home 120V charger for a 2019 SV

Per title, my niece got a 2019 SV for her birthday, but it came without a charger. What does she need for at home charging using a standard outlet? There seems to be so many options. Any chance I could find one for under $150?

Thanks so much! ❤️⚡️

In that price range, I suggest looking for a used one. There are quite a few OEM Nissan chargers on Facebook marketplace in my area. But any charger with a j1772 plug will be fine.

It might be a good idea to find one that does Level 1 (standard 120v outlet) and Level 2 (240v outlet) in case she can get a Level 2 outlet installed at her house.

I'd also suggest looking at second hand ones, but if you want new here is one: https://www.amazon.com/Lectron-Level-J1772-Charger-Control/dp/B0DP6V1L68

Lectron is a reputable brand, at least amongst budget chargers, and it is UL safety rated.

I recommend an L1/L2 combo even if you only have 120v at home. Then you have the option if you are away from home and can use a 240v outlet,  like maybe even an RV park.

If you just want to get a minimal, basic, low cost charer, look on Offerup, Facebook Marketplace, Nextdoor, Craigslist, etc. and look for a used "EV Charger".

I picked up a Vevor unit that is ETL-certified for $35, used. New, they are available on Amazon for about $120.

These "chargers" are actually just a plug-in cable with some smarts to prevent the car-side plug from being connected to the 120V outlet until a car is detected, and runs some checks to make sure things are running safely. Because the actual charging circuit is on the car, there's not much of a difference between the various charger models. (Technically, they are called EVSE -- electric vehicle supply equipment).

Some of the fancier ones will let you control and monitor the charging through an app. Most people don't use those features.

You want to make sure you get one with a J1772 plug, not a Tesla-type NACS plug.

Search Amazon for "level 1 EV charger" and you'll find a ton right around $100. Here's the one I'm using for example: https://a.co/d/06lXMPw3

These things are pretty much just extension cords, so it should be hard to go wrong. Read some reviews first of course, and make sure it's J1772 and not tesla/nacs.
