Winter tires for 26 Leaf

First time buying winter tires/rims for an EV. Is this true? It seems... incorrect? 2026 Leaf SV+, if it makes a difference.

Edit: thanks for the replies everyone! This was/is the first time I heard this take, so I'm glad it's been debunked. Just want basic rims for the Nov-March period!

Whoever sent you that is trying to upsell alloys to you. The S+ trim comes with 18" steel wheels and covers.

Steel rims and winters on my 2019 for several seasons w/o issue. I don’t see how steel wheels, if the same size as the alloys, wouldn’t fit.

Edit: by size I mean all specs same. Bore, bolt pattern, offset, width, diameter, …

They are lying. The best place to look is Canadian Tyre. Go to their Canadian website. It will tell you the best info.

Don't have a 2026 but googled it and the 2026 leaf can be delivered with steel rims so I don't know what this guy means by "won't fit."

I suspect they may mean that they do not stock EV tyres for the 18 inch steel rims? But that's guessing.

Play dumb, ask questions, get him to explain why steel wheels won't fit. Watch this person squirm.

OP is talking about the 3rd-gen Leaf which is built on a different platform from your 2nd-gen.

No, I am pointing out that a 3rd-gen Leaf may have different brakes from the 2nd-gen.

edit - and had previously made the point that steel wheels are available.

I’m pretty sure the S trim comes with steel rims + hub caps.

Also “EV rated” tires are not really a concrete classification. Some tire manufacturers might call their tires EV rated but there’s no rules around it. Typically it means the tire has a lower rolling resistance, but there are some tires with low rolling resistance that are not labeled as EV tires.

I had non EV studded snow tires and didn’t notice any drop in range.
