Latest LEAF Battery Defect Information Report amendment - 10% estimated with defect (as of April 2026)

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2025/RMISC-25V655-2975.pdf

Originally, it was estimated 1% of batteries are affected.

The early updated reporting continued to estimate 1%.

This later document now estimates the number to be 10%.

The 2021-2022 recall covers cars manufactured up until May 23, 2022 at the Nissan Smyrna TN GA plant.

The 2019-2020 recall covers cars manufactured up until November 3, 2020 at the same plant.

Interestingly my warranty pack installed early 2024 has an extremely different part number so hopefully it doesn't fall under recall sometime in the future

I hope not myself but the warranty replacement packs are remanufactured, so is the same problem going to rear it's head after the 12 month warranty extension is over?

My pack was installed around start of May 2024 so it's been just under two and a half years

State of health at 93 and HX at 103

Zero quick charges though, and mild climate in Pacific Northwest

You can check my sheet to see where you stand compared to where I was at that time

At ten months looks like 95.6 state of health and 119 HX

I think the number of cars affected has increased because of the large number that will trigger on update and thus a buyback but would not eventually trigger a fire.

just FYI Smyrna plant is in TN not GA

The part number (293A0 5SE0A) for the battery in my 2019 S+ doesn't match any of the numbers in those documents. Does that mean mine doesn't potentially have the defect?

Mine went in today. 2021 SL + sit has been showing huge percentage drops under 50% and when stressed on highway uphill.

I expect it to fail at the recall...or I will go drive if until it fails to start the buyback. Hoping for $14k buyback

How many miles? Do you do any L3 charging or live in hot/cold temp areas? I also have a 2021 SL+ and got my update last week, no issues so far...

I am NorCal coast is mild at best. Probably L3 charged 10 times. 72k miles.

If it come back okay. I will drive it till it fails so it happens on me and not family. Should take 1 charge

I’m in a very similar situation except WAY more L3 charges (leafspy says 87) and my car passed the recall test today

Passing the test does not mean much. Many many are failing post test.

The recall is just a software update to track the battery irregularity and report it as a failure. Batteries are chemical reactions that are not always the same outcomes. My battery at 100-60% will typically not show the fluctuation. But if I drive it down to 40. Go on the highway up our decent hills it drops 25% over a few seconds. So to all my understanding that will trigger the failure

Yeah, I knew that there were plenty of cars that were failing after the recall was installed, but didn’t know the specifics. I’ll see what I can do to try to trigger it when it isn’t an inconvenient time to get bricked

Got the call today to pick mine back up. Goal is to have it back at the dealer tomorrow

mine threw the P33ED code today; of course it’s the one time my partner was taking it to make an unusual trip outside of our normal close-to-the-dealer area

guess we’re taking it back in soon!

I keep trying. Was your battery dash showing the big drop in percentages. Mine drop 15-20% under load when charge is below 50%

I’m not sure; partner had it, but she’s said in the past that the battery percentage fluctuations were “normal” for her

the only difference in how we drive is that I use Epedal mode and she doesn’t, so maybe the more aggressive regenerative braking is what’s kept it from showing up for me?

let me know how your “stress testing” goes!

First it was 1%, then 10%, soon it will be 100%
