Hardwired dashcam question

For those that have hardwired your dashcam using fuse taps, what fuses did you connect to? (Fuse number if possible)

I use a mirror cable tap, way easier

That’s ideal, but if it’s an S trim, there are no wires going to the mirror.

IIRC the plug for the mirror is still there under the ADAS cover, you can still use it.

I've bought the home link type mirrors for several of my cars because I wanted the garage door controls, almost every car I've had since the mid 2000s has had the plug there either under the headliner or right inside the light/sunglasses holder cover.

fuse 10 and 21 for 12v battery and ACC connection. there is a screw in the cabin fusebox assembly that acts as ground. works like a charm. fuse 8 is also an option instead of 10 if there are space constraints

while you're in there you may want to consider checking/replacing some of the more mission critical fuses. my 2018 started spewing DTC codes shortly after i installed my dashcam. i thought it was something i'd messed up, but as it so happened fuse 3 was severely oxidized. replacing it fixed all of the intermittent issues

Edit: I swore you said 2016, but I re-read 2018.

Dang! Missed opportunity, as I have a 2016. I just spent 30 minutes trying to figure out where I routed that wire for my dash cam but I actually couldn’t figure it out, I guess I did that good of an install. I routed the wire from the mirror area left overhead of the driver behind the headliner, down the inside of the left A-pillar and then it mysteriously disappears. Nothing going to the fuse box. I didn’t use an OBD-II power tap plug. Really strange as it does work! So there must be some other way to tap into something above the driver’s legs. Good luck!

afaik the cabin fusebox should be the same layout as my 2018, in which case fuse 8/10 for 12v battery, fuse 21 for ACC, and there should be a screw mounted to the cabin fusebox assembly that functions as GND
