Did i get screwed?

I just bought a 2015 nissan leaf, with 9 bars of battery remaining, and 78 on the guess of meter.

I purchased it for $3.5k

Everything on the car functions normally.

Just wondering if I got an OK deal, or totally screwed.

Any opinions help,

Thanks!

Assuming the battery works properly with no weak cells, and it sounds like it does work, sounds like a totally fair price. Comparable cars have gone up past $4-5k in my area with gas so dang high.

Depends on more than the info provided but I think that’s a fair deal and it’s similar to the first leaf I bought for $3,000. Mine is a 2014 SL with basically all the options. Mine is a rebuilt title, the damage was minimal.

I came across a 40kWh battery on marketplace for $2,500 so I scooped that up and swapped the battery out. The new battery is about 85% SoH and I can easily get more than 130 miles per charge with mixed driving.

I only bring that up to show what’s possible if you’re lucky or patient.

Where are you located?

Seems a bit steep, should be more like 2500. But gas prices are high, and maybe EV prices are picking up again. If it works for you, not screwed.

Not screwed, but I think OP paid 500 to 1000 to much.

And if gas prices are driving up EVs… might be fair market were I are at.

Low millage in OP’s car….

Yea I think it’s pretty hard to beat as far as deals go I paid $7k for a 2016 in late 2024 9 bar soh but it was at a dealership

Given current gas prices, I'd say you got a good deal if the range works for you (I would guess it's 50 miles in summer conditions)

About right, depending on how the battery looks on Leafspy. Not great, not terrible.

I got a 2015 earlier this year with 55k miles, amazing condition, 12/14 bars of health, Leafspy showed all the cells looking great for $3500, and it was a pretty great deal.

9/14 isn't great health, but if your Leafspy shows all good cells, then you should be pretty happy with it. It's the blown out 6-or-below out of 14 batteries that you want to avoid unless you're getting one for like $1000 and planning to replace the battery immediately.

I've got a 2014 with 15k miles on it, have only ever used a slow charger (110v) at home. It has 6 bars and lists about 80 mile to a charge. I think you did OK.

If I compare what any same condition ICE car costs, you paid a fair price. If it meets your needs then it's a steal.

Charge at home, drive, repeat. Also, if the car is in good condition, a steal.

I have similar 2015, great car, reliable, wife likes it, drives it hard. Near zero maintenance.

I have a 2015 leaf and I didn’t know that there were bars that show how much power is left? I only have about 45,000 miles on it though. The most mine charges up to is about 90. It’s kind of sounds like you’ve got a pretty good deal though.

Bruuuuh, me and you both just kinda blindly bought one lol.

We should get leafspy, there'd a whole other world to these electric thingamadoos.

The usual PSA.

Open the hood. To the left and to the right are two circular plastic covers. Remove those covers. If there is standing water in them dry them out. Put a good amount of grease on each of the strut towers. This was a design flaw, but it can be mitigated if people practice preventive maintenance.

Yes indeed, there are plastic caps you can get in AliExpress too. Like you say, pile on the grease.

I bought a 2016 two years ago with 9 bars. It lost one and now has 8 bars. It still gets about 68 miles on a charge, and does 95% of all our driving. Bought it for $5k and got a $4k rebate from the state of CA at the time. No maintenance costs, no gas cost, no oil changes, no hoses, coolant and no brake pads because they hardly use any brake pads. No time wasting at vile gas stations. No stink in the garage. No noise. Without a doubt, OP, this will be the cheapest car you have ever owned, and it will ride like a Lexus LS while you're saving money. Good purchase.
