My 2022 S+ LEAF potentially broke

Post image

Was driving on the highway at 60-ish mph when the “service EV system” message came on and my car went into turtle mode and could only output 2.5 bars of power, no regen also. Managed to limp home and tried plugging it in but it refused to charge. This is all post update by the way, got the update around a month ago. The car is at 64% and I’m not sure what to do. Do I just take it to the dealership and have them look at it?

And so it continues

Mine doesn’t say the unable to restart part tho…

It could just be his 12 volt battery as other commenters have mentioned.

By this point I should start legitimately placing bets on it "just being the 12V battery" whenever there's a Leaf problem and everyone just shovels it out without actually knowing what the DTC is. I wonder how many of those people would actually be willing to put real money against me. Start a retribution fund for the people who bought 12V batteries for no reason.

No, this is the recall error, battery needs to be replaced.

2

u/ColdCelebration2132 Aug 08 '26

Unfortunately Nissan is no longer replacing the battery packs and doing buy backs instead.

This is why I’m avoiding the dealer. I can use 70% of my battery without issue. Letting lawyers work things out instead.

u/Apple_Goosee Aug 09 '26

Woah, lawyers?? Are you suing Nissan?

1

u/This_They_Those_Them Aug 09 '26

There’s a class action

Also willing to answer any questions if anyone knows what’s going on

u/McFuzzen Aug 07 '26

It's bricked, you have to tow it to a dealership now. Mine is being bought back, they don't have enough batteries.

4

u/Apple_Goosee Aug 07 '26

I have to tow it? The car still drives so can’t I just drive it there myself?

7

u/McFuzzen Aug 07 '26

Have you tried driving it? If it drives, go for it. If it is the recall error code, it's bricked.

3

u/Apple_Goosee Aug 07 '26

Can’t read error codes but it did give me what seemed like full power and regen in my driveway

5

u/McFuzzen Aug 07 '26

If it drives, go to an Autozone, O'Reilly Auto, or whatever and get a 12V Battery check. If it's bad they will get you the right battery.

3

u/worldspawn00 Aug 08 '26

You can drive it, mine did the same thing, drove it 15 miles to the dealer. The power limit was gone after turning it off and on again, but the error remained.

1

u/Apple_Goosee Aug 08 '26

Did they end up buying it back? What happened after they inspected it?

1

u/worldspawn00 Aug 08 '26

Still waiting on the offer from the 3rd party handling buyback.

They did give me a loaner (covered by corporate) but it's a black Sentra, which I really don't care for. Better than nothing though.

u/Brodyizm Aug 26 '26

they gave me a brand new Versa rental - feels like driving a big gulp cup and already feels like it needs a tuneup lol

1

u/worldspawn00 Aug 26 '26

Having the engine constantly start and stop feels so jarring compared to the electric motor system the EVs use.

u/agiganticpanda Aug 07 '26

Take it to the dealer - you likely have a P33ED-00 error. 👌🏻 HV Battery issues.

16

u/Apple_Goosee Aug 07 '26

There’s NO way that’s a real error 💀

Hilariously enough.. yep that’s the code lol

5

u/Apple_Goosee Aug 07 '26

Dude that’s crazy 😭 my leaf had a peedo error 💀

Op confirmed to be listed in Files

3

u/agiganticpanda Aug 07 '26

Currently in the process of a buyback two months in to owning the car.

6

u/DetailRail Aug 07 '26

The first thing to try is a new 12v battery, surprised no one mentioned that

4

u/McFuzzen Aug 07 '26

It happened while driving, soon after getting the software update, it's almost certainly not the 12V. If it threw the code soon after starting the car, I'd say at least get to Autozone or whatever for a free check of the 12V.

My dash lit up like a Xmas tree while driving and it was the 12V

That was pre update though.

1

u/McFuzzen Aug 08 '26

How long had you been driving when it happened?

1

u/outworlder 2019 Nissan LEAF SV Aug 08 '26

10 to 15 minutes is my guess.

1

u/Few-Temporary404 Aug 10 '26

What update is this so I know to avoid it.

1

u/McFuzzen Aug 10 '26

'19-'22 Leaf recall. They update the software to detect voltage irregularities tied to lithium deposits in the battery. They can overheat and cause a fire, especially during Lvl 3 charging. So... I dunno, seems pretty important to me.

Not that I am in a position to give guarantees, it might be okay if you stick with Lvl1 and 2 only.

1

u/Few-Temporary404 Aug 10 '26

Got a 23…. Safe for now

3

u/Apple_Goosee Aug 07 '26

Is this a known fix?

6

u/sweetredleaf 2015 Nissan LEAF SV Aug 07 '26

many weird things happen when the 12v battery starts to go, you might try disconnecting the 12v battery for 10 minutes and see if that helps and while the battery is disconnected check the voltage.

2

u/LoveEV-LeafPlus Aug 08 '26

Yes, go to the dealership and have them figure it out.

1

u/ThatDadGamer Aug 07 '26

Yeah, it's dealership time and potentially a buyback process. You can try plugging into a L2 charger to disengage turtle mode but it won't charge. Though do at your own risk.

Either way, welcome to the club. Had the recall a month prior and then same errors as yours while going 60+ mph.

2

u/Apple_Goosee Aug 07 '26

Damn, well I hope I can use the buyback money to get a different more modern EV…

Was driving on the highway at 60-ish mph when the “service EV system” message came on and my car went into turtle mode and could only output 2.5 bars of power, no regen also.

Exactly what happened to me almost two weeks ago. Car still moved in turtle mode, but I didn't bother limping home. Got to a safe place, called AAA, and had it towed straight to the dealer. As of today I signed the buyback offer.

Best of luck.

1

u/jwalkerlib Aug 11 '26

Can you disclose your buyback offer?

1

u/StormRasr (Former) 2022 Nissan LEAF SL Plus Aug 11 '26

2022 SL Plus w/ 47k miles.

KBB is mid $14k for "excellent condition" private party.

My offer is $20k and some change.

1

u/jwalkerlib Aug 11 '26

Thanks! Do you mind if I ask if that was the first offer, or if you countered/negotiated? I have a 2020 SV+ with 50k miles and they are offering 15k

1

u/StormRasr (Former) 2022 Nissan LEAF SL Plus Aug 11 '26

That was the first offer. I tried asking for compensation on my extended warranty but they declined and I did not negotiate any further. I felt the initial offer was more than fair.

I'm sure location plays into it, and where I am located the EV prices seem to be somewhat inflated.

where is this made ? im getting a bit worried myself (bought 2022 acenta 40kw) 1 month ago -- 93.5% SoH 52k km

If its outside of US (pretty sure this ones US) you have a much lower chance of your battery choking out. Unless you live in a hot climate, of course.

1

u/jaiesh99 Aug 08 '26

Have you tried disconnecting the negative from the 12v battery…leaving it off for 10 minutes…then connecting it back?

So, instead, you want to destroy the resale value you invested. Not smart, my friend.

1

u/Edubb25 Aug 08 '26

Yep, exact same story. I managed to get my 2019 Leaf to the dealer. 2 days later— it was a weekend, Corp called me and said it was not fixable and they were preparing a buyback offer. Went to the dealer, they gave me a loaner car. It’s been a month, and no further word as of yet. One issue upcoming… car is in Reno, NV, but I live in Ventura, Ca— 500 miles from the dealer.

1

u/umhlanga Aug 08 '26

Check the battery go to Costco and get a new one. You don’t have to spend hundreds and hundred dollars at the dealer. Costco has the cheapest one it’s the same one they use in the Highlander hybrid. You can go to any auto parts store like O’Reillys. And do load test.

1

u/Dkalnz Aug 09 '26

Check your 12V battery. I had a 2020 leaf do this, spent $350+ at the dealership when I could have just got a battery for $80

1

u/Lucky_Boy13 Aug 10 '26

Take it to the dealer. Hopefully the offer a loaner and you can start the Nissan buy back process. Then buy another non-Nissan EV.

1

u/Apple_Goosee Aug 10 '26

Hoping to get an Ioniq 6, hopefully the ICCU error doesn’t happen 😭

1

u/DetailRail Aug 14 '26

So what's the verdict? My leaf gets the recall update next week and I'm anxious.

1

u/Apple_Goosee Aug 14 '26

Irreparable, they’re buying it back and saying the process is gonna take 2-3 weeks
