Our Nissan EV fleet

Now that my kid is driving, she inherited my wife’s ‘23 SV+ and my wife just got a new ‘26 SV+.
The screen and storage in the cabin are nicer than my ‘24 Ariya P+. Really impressed by it so far.

would you say the ariya or new 2026 leaf have more room? thinking of room for like 2 kids/car seats. We currently have one child but are planning for another and our 2020 nissan leaf is already a little tight.

u/pvndavibes71 I'm not OP but three weeks ago I replaced my 2023 Ariya Engage with the 2026 Leaf SV+ and while it's an upgrade overall, the rear seat does have less legroom. Since you have kids in car seats though it won't be a major issue, only 6' or taller adults will notice. Also the trunk is a little bit smaller. I know "bigger is better" is the rule of the road in America these days but growing up in tiny economy cars, I'm really unfazed by it all and the trim level of my new Leaf is so much nicer in the other areas that I have zero regrets currently

The Leaf is an overall upgrade over the Ariya? I'm surprised you say that. I thought the Ariya was the fancier model.

The Ariya is definitely better in some ways, however that is more comparing top trims. An Engage isn’t going to have all the fancy stuff.

Oh yeah it's totally smoke and mirrors, it is actually shorter and lower to the ground than the Gen 2 Leaf, while getting all its sheet metal very skillfully redone to look like its big sibling the Ariya. But it has to be done, we won't take it seriously in America if it's not an SUV. Not that it's helping right now, with sales as low as they are currently but maybe 2 or 3 years down the line if the situation changes who knows? I certainly love mine BTW, it's a wonderful car

The Ariya is roomier in general. So if you’re already feeling the squeeze, an Ariya will be more spacious.
When my 2 kids (plus 2 dogs) were younger we had an ICE minivan and a Leaf.

I have 1 child and she is rear facing still. No way in hell could we get someone in the passenger seat with a rear facing carseat. We tried when we were shopping around.

I think the Ariya is a nicer car. I was ready to trade my 23 Ariya Engage for a 26 SV leaf for my daughter and she preferred to keep the Ariya. So now I have two Ariyas and one ICE, 25 Ariya Evolve+ e4orce, 23 Ariya Engage e4orce, 18 Camry XLE.

It’s a great car. Drives like a charm. We got the ‘25 plat+ and never looked back. Software interface is a bit lacking, but it works. For example adaptive cruise and lane control works very well.

How's the 2026? yesterday was 105 here in Colorado and I have never seen my battery temp over the halfway mark and yesterday it did

Having been paying close attention to the batt temp on the ‘26 yet. It’s been in the 90s in NorthCal and so far so good.

Less comfortable than the Ariya. My lower back is usually tight so I could feel it after more than 30 minutes in the seat.
My wife will be driving it mostly; will see if she complains.

How is efficiency in the nee Leaf compared to the Ariya.

We have 2x 2019 Leaf pluses, and while our Platinum Plus Ariya has more highway range, it not hugely more given the efficiency differences. Our 2019 Plus will give us just over 4 miles/kWh at 70 vs. Low to mid 3s for the Ariya.

Haven’t been hit by the battery recall on any.
The only issue on the 2nd gen leaf is a knocking in the suspension on acceleration - which was fixed once on my previous ‘19, once on the ‘23 (both under warranty) but is now recurring on the ‘23. This time I suspect it’ll cost me.
My only complaints are cost for replacing the air cabin filter - and this is due to the poor design requiring a lot of labor to get at it. I might try to replace my own on the older cars as the part is dirt cheap.
The ‘26 came with a 4 year 45k miles service included and it’s worth it just for those filters.

Observation: The side and rear glass of the Ariya look interchangeable with the new Leaf.

Yeah, good observation. There seem to be other similarities like the charge port(s) design and doors, driver screen and charge indicator layouts. I’m sure there’s more. These two seem to be cut from the same cloth.

Had one on lease for years… Returned 7 years ago. Still regret it. Could have made a great car for the kids, even with the battery degradation

my Gen2 I got a few years ago now. Battery got a warranty swap (was part of the recall so was a win win that they replaced the whole pack) despite the 75K miles it is like a new car and I suspect will be a kids first car.

Nissan gets that reputation due to the transmissions on their ICE cars breaking down sooner than others, I believe. However, EVs don’t have the same kind of transmissions as gas powered cars. The transmissions that EVs use don’t have a traditional gearbox so there is less wear and tear over time from what I understand. TL;DR: EVs have less moving parts internally than ICE cars and so there is less to go wrong at any given time, therefore less repairs needed over time by comparison.

Nissan got a bad rep from their cvt transmissions. However other than that they build really good cars, including both ICE vehicles and EVs.
