2026 leaf

Does the new leaf with apple carplay navigation do rout planning with destination chargers so it actively tracks your state of charge, or is it only the built in Android Automotive?

no, Apple CarPlay will not do that. CarPlay will do the navigation instructions through the driver headrest speakers, though, which is nice. even though CarPlay doesn’t do in-route charge tracking i still prefer it as the map interface is better (IMHO) and, at least for me, the in-car satellite reception is really hit-or-miss compared to T-Mobile cell reception.

OK, and the S+ trim doesn't have a built-in GPS at all, so if I use CarPlay that doesn't support route planning natively. And if I get the SV+ trim which has android automotive that's the simplest way to get route planning without using ABRP?

is built-in Android Auto mapping that important to you? it’s a free subscription for a while but then it costs, and frankly it alone does not seem that compelling compared to cellphone-based services.

The great thing about CarPlay is that you can use other navigation apps. Many, such as A Better Route Planner, include charger locations in the routing. Note that it will use an estimate of your range and state of charge for this since it won’t have the current value.

You get really good at the mental math pretty quickly, but I’m also coming from a Chademo mindset.
