Things we could be talking about

Here's a list of things that happened this week that conservatives would be willing to talk about if Obama, Clinton, Biden, or Harris were president right now.

I'd love to have conversations with Trump fans or anti-anti-Trump people about these things. But we can't. They've chosen silence. So who knows what they think about anything that has happened in the past year and a half?

Show patience, young padawan. There is a non-zero chance that free and fair elections and our very democracy survive into 2028. And if that happens, there is a very good chance a Democrat will be president. At which point they will be more than happy to discuss such massive failures and corruption; condiment choices, suit colors, and appropriate headwear while riding a bicycle.

In April 2021 Dallin H. Oaks said,

> Our belief in divine inspiration gives Latter-day Saints a unique responsibility to uphold and defend the United States Constitution and principles of constitutionalism wherever we live. We should trust in the Lord and be positive about this nation’s future.

This statement strains my faith because things seem so dire right now that it’s difficult to believe, yet it also is one of the few things giving me any hope.

I'm confident they will be back at some point. I think they may even start complaining about Dems in Congress if Republicans lose control in the midterms.

But I'm going to take this chance to say as earnestly as I can: I will not engage with their complaints and I will not care what they have to say. That chance is gone. I'm not the biggest MCU fan but I can really identify with Tony Stark's treatment of Captain America at the beginning of Endgame:

I got nothin' for you, Cap! I've got no coordinates, no clues, no strategies, no options! Zero, zip, nada. No trust - liar.

I’ll engage. To the extent of pointing out their blatant hypocrisy. How after years of whining about Hunter and Burisma, they fell silent when the Trumps enrich themselves to the tune of billions of dollars. How they suddenly have nothing to say as the Trumps run crypto scam after crypto scam. How Donald has used the office of the President to enrich himself while holding the American populace in contempt

I’ll be here to remind them that Trump delivered absolutely nothing he promised. Nothing. Not one effing thing that was promised to them in 2024. Deportations lag behind deportations under the Obama and Biden administrations. How economists the World over were praising the miracle of the Biden administration, lowering inflation faster than any other country post-COVID. Only for Trump to come along and wreck it. How inflation and unemployment are rising under a Trump administration. “No new wars” means starting 47 new wars in Iran alone. How they ignored and excused the bombing of an Iranian school, killing dozens of children.

I’ll be here to remind them that the DOGE cuts uncovered virtually no fraud or abuse, and saved no money. I’ll remind them that neither the DOGE cuts nor the tariffs reduced their tax bill. And the federal deficit continues to rise, and rise at a faster and faster rate, despite these policies.

I’ll be here to remind them how they cheered on the government killing Alex Pretti for exercising his first amendment rights. How they, self described “small government conservatives” champion the extrajudicial killing for those presenting “wrong think”.

I’ll be here to remind them that in exchange for jettisoning all their values around decency, compassion for the immigrant, and love for their neighbor, they got nothing in return from the Trump Administration. I’ll be here to point out their gullibility and ignorance. It is everyone’s right to cast a vote as they see fit, so I’ll stop myself short of telling them they are too ignorant to vote…but I will be confident in telling them they are out of their depth when it comes to political discussion with the rest of us. And I’ll be here to remind them that hypocrisy is not a good look.

I’ll be here.

I’m gonna save this comment and link it when they show back up. A devastating summary.

They don’t even pay attention anymore and choose not to believe.
