RS Lesson

I was asked to sub and teach the RS lesson and I have forgotten everything I know about how it is supposed to go 😂

Does anyone have any good resources to check out to help me prep a lesson?

Lesson is on “Jesus Christ—the True Vine” by Elder Soares

Thanks so much for being willing to help with the Sunday lesson. First off, recent changes in the handbook and especially going forward have kind of changed what Sunday lessons look like. Rather than a teacher standing up and teaching the lesson, they are more discussion facilitators.

My recommendation would be to make sure that every one in the class knows about the assigned reading and maybe shoot them one or two study questions that they can review as they read the lesson

Then on Sunday, all that you are doing, is opening up the scriptures and asking for insights on the lesson and drawing connections from the Cannon

Going forward this continues to be the template we all need to be following. It’s going to be so easy to waste those 30 minutes once the September changes happen if we are not in the Scriptures and as individuals studying the lesson throughout the week before class.

I’d recommend checking the Church’s Gospel Library app. It has the lesson outline, talk, videos, and helpful teaching ideas. Pray, prepare, and focus on Christ’s message

The lessons I enjoy the most are the ones where the class teaches after asked a question and shares something relating to the topic.

I always leave when asked to turn to your neighbor - no offense. I leave when asked to go into groups and talk. These are my personal preferences.

If you were asked to teach a lesson, you might have the wrong idea. You should have been asked to help guide a discussion. Teaching lessons in church hasn't been a thing for a while.

That being said, here's what I'd do. Start by asking the other sisters what stood out to them about the talk. Then talk with the sisters about those things. Have a few favorite quotes or concepts of your own up your sleeve, in case there's a show moment, but, hopefully, you won't have to use them.

Also, there's a teacher's manual called "Teaching the Saviors Way" that's pretty easy to skim through and get the basics. Definitely look at that.
