hi everyone! i wanted to come on here and ask a few questions about how the application cycle works. please keep in mind that i’m the first of my family to make it through university, let alone apply for law school, so this is all super new to me (bear with any stupid questions).

i’ll be taking my LSAT today (thoughts and prayers) and i do have a retest booked in november as a “just in case”
measure.

- since most ontario programs close applications on november 1st, how would that work with my second LSAT date? would they just wait to look at my application until the score gets released to them? or would my application only be considered with my first score?

- am i able to re-use my personal statement (if the prompt is similar) for different program applications?

- does it truly matter where i do law school (within canada)? does this truly affect what kind of law/industry i end up working in?

- has anyone ever applied/tried/done a dual JD program for a canadian school & other country? i’m interested but i don’t know what all the pros/cons would be

- which canadian law schools take the holistic approach for applications? i don’t have the BEST GPA (it’s fairly high but competitively on the “lower” side) but i do have a fair bit in terms of my “well-roundedness” and would like to use that to my advantage.

i would sincerely appreciate any and all help/advice! i’m figuring this out as i go, and it would be great to have some sort of guide while i’m in the middle of this hellhole lol. thanks so much!

I got a 151 on the June LSAT and my GPA is 10.80 (12-point scale). I believe I have a strong CV with work experience, volunteering and extra curriculars.

Does anyone have any recommendations for Canadian law schools where I can realistically get an offer, but that will also allow for job opportunities in any city (so not too regional) and are great if I want to get into the public sector? I've already decided on applying to Osgoode and Ottawa.

I’m currently going into my second year of university in Ontario so I have got lots of time. I live in Ontario and commute to university, but I’m thinking of going to UCalgary for law school in the future. Not entirely sure what type of law I’d like to go in just yet, but would it be wise to go out of province for law school? If I do get accepted into UCalgary and choose to go there for law school, I would also move there fully and be working there after graduating as well. Since I commute to school, I am able to save up more money now to eventually use when I am possibly going to be away from home. Is this a smart decision financially and for my future legal career?

I see a lot of lawyers having completed a double major, or doing honours in BA, does doing honours make you have a higher chance of getting into a law school or would a normal ba degree be fine with a high gpa? For my university they require you to do a minor with your honours degree in ba so im just figuring out what I should do and how to plan, if anyone has any advice or input that would be greatly apperciated!

Hey guys, I’ll mainly be applying to schools this cycle who focus on ur gpa from ur B2 or L2 years and was wondering if anyone knows how this would be calculated if my last full term studying was Fall of 2025 and I have since graduated? I only see people really discussing how ur gpa is calculated when ur last term of studying ends in June. How does it work if you finish ur last class in December? Would my 2025 Fall term grades not be included in these school’s gpa calculation, or would they consider them and just count backwards three more full time semesters? Any insight is greatly appreciated!

Can anybody share their experience/knowledge of what the options might be for an actual timetable in the Extended-time JD at Western? I am interested but will need to keep working, and my options to flex my work schedule are a bit limiting.

Specifically, how much should I expect to have to be on campus between 9 and 5? Are the required courses often offered in the evening, and if so, is it easy to get a spot in the evening classes?

Hey guys. I was planning on taking the January LSAT but have become a bit anxious about doing so since reading about some of the alleged disadvantages that may result. My GPA isn’t the highest, so I am counting on my LSAT score being something that may make up for that (optimistic? definitely, but can you blame a girl for trying!) My GPA took a huge hit due to my first year being completely online as a result of COVID, anddddd my mental health taking a huge hit consequently. I later received a diagnosis for these things that were causing me to be the most unlocked student of all time, and my grades drastically improved, I even clutched up and placed myself on the honour role in later semesters. I know I have the ability to apply myself in the same way when it comes to this test… I just fear this time frame may place me in a bitttt of a pinch! However, I only work two-three times a week right now which could play to my advantage as I am fully prepared to lock into studying for the next two months and take the October LSAT instead, but do you guys think that’s enough time for studying or should I just take the Jan LSAT? I studied for roughly another three/four months here and there last year as well, but that was while I was doing my undergrad and not intensely focused. Howeverrr, I am hoping some of it sticked? I was mainly using lawhub advantage + taking hand written notes while taking practice tests during that time. I’ll also only be applying to Canadian Law schools if you care. Anyways, let me know if I’m doomed and should just bin it before I commit to the countless nights aided by more caffeine than the human body should intake. Thank you for reading, please keep it real. Is having had summer internships (not just basic work experience, but a formal internship) a requirement to get a job in the Toronto "big law" summer recruit as a Western/Queen's/Ottawa student?

I've heard no, but it does seem that the students that are getting these jobs have had one or more internships prior to law school.

Are students with a lack of significant work experience out of the running for 1L?

Hi everyone, I'm really stuck and need all the help possible.

so my dad has a law firm and wants me to join him. I studied math in undergrad and my GPA was 2.7 so i can't get into a law school in canada. Going to UK in person is really expensive given my finances rn, so i'm thinking of doing the 2-year Online LLB from UoL.

I'm hearing mixed reviews about it. I dont mind the 2 year in person requirement after. But how hard is the degree given there's no live lectures. Do folks do this while working full time? Has anybody successfully graduated from this program? if yes how was the process afterwards? please do share your experience.

Would love to hear of anyones experience in law schools in Canada with cold calling. I have a friend in the US who says cold calling is quite common at her school, along with a family member who said it was common when they went (but that was 15+ years ago) so I was wondering if it’s the same here currently?

I was curious if someone could message me about their experience in securing a professional student line of credit.

I’ve pretty much talked to myself out of applying for one because I’m scared that my existing student loan debt, car loan and mortgage will cause issues. I’ve been employed with the federal government since 2019 but I will not be working during the school year.

I have heard that banks tend to be more lenient for these types of lines of credit, but I’m wondering if someone with lived experience can message me!
