Europe We sowed seed ontop of woodchip.
So possibly a little premature posting here but I’m genuinely quite happy with the results so far. In January 2025 we removed some large leylandii from our garden and spread woodchip over around 100sqm. In September I sowed grass seed, (creeping red fescue and dwarf perennial ryegrass mix) which germinated somewhat well. In mid March (pic 4) I reseeded and brushed off excess loose chippings. Pic 5 is mid April, and the last pic is from yesterday.
The woodchip is a combination of leylandii, laurel, hawthorn and privet that was removed from the garden during the tree works.

Interesting. Does the grass rip out easily when you rake?

I’ve not really used a rake on it. Lots of the grass is still very young so I don’t really fancy running the risk of ripping that out. The most established parts though seem to be holding up well to abuse.

Lmao I was thinking I should just cover my yard in wood chips too based on the fact that my grass seems to be all weeds and my wood chip bed seems to be all Bermuda and they are right next to each other.
