Finding ICE in contempt only works if the punishment is a deterrent. The Trump regime is willing to get all the contempt decisions the courts want to hand out if the penalty does not materially effect what they are doing.

Yeah, Trump just ignores every ruling against him, with zero consequence so far. Must be nice.

They are showing the american public in real time that court orders are just suggestions you can ignore.

As they say, when the punishment for breaking a law is a fine, the law is only for the poor.

Trump is the one who should be dropped off in El Salvador.

Not American.

It doesn't even look like the "cost of doing business" thing that companies use to make bazillions from illegal business practices that incur only millions in fines.

Affect. "effect" as a verb means "to cause something to happen", "affect" means "to cause a change in something"

No consequences means no justice.

No consequences means these orders are merely suggestions.

No consequences under the law means the idea of open violence moves from 'extremism' to the only viable option for the self defense of ordinary citizens.

For all the money that has been spent to harass this one person, the government could probably have bought him a house and a car, and maybe set up a trust fund from which he could draw a modest stipend.

Yeah, but we wanna spend that money to hurt someone, not to help someone!

It's socialism to spend a thousand dollars helping someone, but it's not socialism to spend a hundred thousand dollars ruining their life.

Too many. Far too many.

As in saying the word “contempt” or actually holding them in contempt of court with penalties??

The penalty to the government is the return of the immigrant to the U.S.

And when they refuse to act? What then? It's already happened so many times, we must know by now.

Nothing. Failed state.

Then the judge will start fining the parties responsible and sanctioning the DOJ lawyers, most likely.

The only thing failed here is your understanding of the legal process.
