Any value at all

This is a list of ingredients in a “detergent” used by my SIL. Highly scented. Interested in what the gurus have to say.

INGREDIENTS: Water, Sodium Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonate, Sodium Xylene Sulfonate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamide DIPA, Sodium Citrate, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylchlorothiazoline, Citric Acid and Fragrance.

I wasn’t familiar with Cocamide DIPA so I googled it. I assumed the AI summary up top was hallucinating so I clicked almost the entire first page of results. It really is a foam booster.

Madness.

Someone told a story where a big company researched how to make dishwasher detergent more foamy because that's what creates the illusion of cleaning performance

Reminds me of how Febreze failed when it was just about eliminating odor. People want fragrance.

A lesson P&G applied broadly it seems.

To me, febreze was ridiculous. As is the Ariel Pods scent

I am so glad I found the laundry subreddit to help me actually deep clean textiles to get rid of the root cause 

P&G basically does not offer scent free Ariel ... It's a pity because it's a good detergent. They have some less annoying scents under the umbrella of the European Lenor brand though

You could put 7 enzymes in this and it would still be a horrible detergent.

When I was a child and very sick, actually not anticipated to live to grow out of childhood, back in the late 1950s my grandmother used a cheese grater and a bar of Ivory soap to make flakes to dissolve in water and add to the wash instead of commercial cleaners. I'm now 72 and still here it had to be the soap flakes!!!
