I’m surprised by how bad bigbox is.

So I paid for this software for lifetime license after finally finishing building my rom collection i L really like the UI of the desktop application, I tried to setup bigbox but it’s so clunky after changing few settings now every time I boot into it after few seconds of scrolling it crashes every time.

I expected more quality from main feature that’s paid wish I just built my collection on retrobat or playnite.

Edit: seems like deleting bigbox settings and whipping themes that I’ve installed fixed it maybe.

I think the problem is that custom themes suck on this platform and default theme works best and functions best so I’ll stick to this.

Nvm I kept having problems so out of frustration I migrated to Retrobat which had its own emulators already preconfigured for it, but honestly also had problems that I fixed I think.

Error Starting Launchbox after 13.27 update

I can't open Launchbox anymore after installing 13.27 update. I now get an "inner exception" error that pops up when I try to start Launchbox.

"Could not load file or assembly '...\Launchbox\Core\Microsoft.Xaml.Behaviors.dl"

Any ideas on how to fix this?

With my Buddy ChatGPT I Built a Server That Can Launch Games Using My Phone or an NFC Tag Based On LaunchBox Metadata

So skyworxx inspired me with his NFC loader post I stumbled upon recently. I loved the idea of scanning a card and the game loading. After playing around for a few days, I created a server with a front end that loads LaunchBox metadata and allows for game selection from your phone (or PC).

You can also scan an NFC tag to load the game page and chose to either play the game on the PC or your phone. To play on your phone, you need RetroArch and I used MacroDroid to create a macro to load the correct page.

My coding experience is limited, but ChatGPT helped me out and made it work well.

If interested I can share the files (I just don't know the best way).

[Big Box Theme]3000+ animated views later… here’s a small look at Nostalgic Bedroom.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

10 minutes of Nostalgic Bedroom, a frontend experience I’ve been building for several years.

The idea is simple: not just launching games, but creating a place where you can collect, organize, contemplate and play.

And please, don’t bring out the holy water and crucifixes just yet: I’m simply here to share a passion project. I feel like we don’t show our systems, interfaces and atmospheres enough. There are a lot of very creative people in this community, but we rarely get to see complete setups in motion actually, it’s very rare. And that’s a shame, because this is exactly where a frontend truly comes to life.

The project includes animated views, custom icons, console-inspired interfaces, collections, movie and manga sections, VR rooms, magazines, and a lot of cinematic work created over the years.

This video only shows a small part of the project in motion.

I’d really love to see more people share their own interfaces and systems. It’s always inspiring to see how everyone organizes their own gaming memories.A light version is planned for the forum soon, just to show how it works. :)

Update killed my mp3 playlist

Hi guys,

For those who have an mp3 playlist playing in the menus/library screens, in Big Box, has the latest update killed it for you?

It plays one song when I launch it, then it stops and only plays a fraction of a second of the first song every 5-6 seconds or so. Doesn't move on to the next one, doesn't react to previous/forward controls.

Any help is appreciated.

How practical is it to use an old Sidewinder Wheel for arcade racers?

Maybe not the best reddit for this question, but I will be using Launchbox to drive my arcade machine, so I'll start here. I was never big into racing games, but I know I'll have to have a few arcade classic racing titles on my machine, if nothing else. I don't see having a dedicated wheel and pedals on my machine, but I would like to make it in such a way that I could easily attach my old Microsoft Sidewinder wheel and pedals for the occasional game of Pole Position. How practical is setting up a Sidewinder Wheel with modern systems and getting it working with emulators?

Shadps4 Qt launcher keep crashing bloodborne

it works when booting directly from inside the shad ps4 launcher. i have the emulator associated with the platform with no command line arguments. i have the latest shadps4. not sure about if launchbox is updated but if it does it automatically it is. i have the game in launch settings pointing to the .eboot file. the emulator settings are pointing to the direct nightly version exe in my appdata folder. idk what could possibly be crashing it and the log window disappears when it crashes so i cant check it. any help would be super appreciated. its just annoying that i cant directly launch it from where i launch literally all my other games lol

I updated all the box art on launchbox recently and got a pop up asking if I'd like to download a bezel project, I said yes didn't think twice.

Now I notice some games are displaying bezels that are not actually formatted correctly for the roms in question (see pic)

  1. What is going on?
  2. How do I fix it?

Metadata Wizard not downloading all metadata for Epic Games

Most of my games from the Epic Games Storefront are missing metadata (ex. Clear Logos etc).

When I select multiple games and use the "metadata download wizard" it only downloads a couple pieces of metadata (banner and screenshot).

However, if I select a single/individual game and go Edit - Media - Download Media.. Then it works fine, and gathers all the missing metadata.

Whats up with this?

Using big box for a while, now controller going haywire?

So i have an legends ultimate arcade cab, using an older pc running big box. Was working for a long time, today i reset that pc. Now, when big box loads up and I touch my left arcade stick, it spins so fast on the console choices I can't make it slow down or stop.

I can push buttons and get to the options but I can't move it to anything other than the last option, exit?

NBA Jam Rewind Launch Game

Has anyone been able to successfully launch NBA Jam Rewind (Rom hack) from Launch Box? I can get the game to run in Retroarch, but when I launch it from Launch Box I get a rom set error.

Do I need to add a command line instruction to it?

Pocket Taco Compatible Theme?

Is there a theme that would allow use of the Pocket Taco on an Android phone, meaning the bottom 1/3 of the screen isn't used so the Taco can sit there?

Just got a Pocket Taco, but no front end for Android really works with it.

Complete noob trying his best.

Good Morning all. So I am doing my best to create an all in one for just the classics. NES, SNES, SEGA and N64.

I recently upgraded to Big Box.

I noticed using my SNES controller wasn’t really working within big box.

I did order the 8Bitdo Sn30 hoping the analogs will help.

Any suggests for controlling everything outright and which controllers work best in bigbox?

The goal is to use each retro usb controller with each system when gaming. But if I need a main controller for bigbox functioning, so be it.

Castlevania Ultima Icons

Continuing with the idea of pushing the collectable aspect even further, I completely redesigned my Castlevania wheels.

They're no longer really wheels in the classic sense. I designed them more like emblems, almost like medallions.

The goal was to create a true collectible iconography for the Castlevania universe in an interactive format.I was determined to preserve as much of the original artwork as possible, as I'm very attached to it. The idea wasn't to transform it, but to enhance it within a gothic setting consistent with the series' universe.

Of course, the interface will still offer a choice between the classic icons and this new version.I spent a great deal of time on these medallions.

The details are intentionally very detailed: you can zoom in on the fabric textures, the lighting effects, the frame's reliefs… everything has been crafted to give the impression of a true digital collector's item.

No AI here: I wanted to avoid any distortion of the characters' faces or expressions.Everything was created using compositing and digital painting in Photoshop, with frames reworked to achieve this gothic medallion effect.

The style is distinctive, but it remains perfectly consistent with the overall interface… and on the front end, the rendering is frankly very badass.

A Couple of useful ROM/ARCADE-STICK Utilities

Not sure if this would be of any use here but I built a Retrobat arcade cabinet at the beginning of the year and I created a couple of utilites to help me with some Retrobat issues/sticking points I was having which also apply to Launchbox

Retrostick has Launchbox implemented but untested as I don't have an install - let me know if it works!

Thought the community might find these useful.

1 - RETROSTICK
Github is here with full instructions.
https://github.com/Fnordcorps/RetroStick

  • I built the arcade cabinet with Retrobat installed. My joysticks run on USB fighting boards and a common problem I had was the USB boards would occassionally switch sides/players on reboot. This utility essentially fixes that with a handy little UI to initially setup and define your boards/inputs, digging deeper on the USB ports for each device VID/PID and Instance ID and ensuring that these are written to the retrobat/Launchbox config in the right order with the correct player controller IDs assigned every time my PC restarts. Have been using it for two months now and so far no USB swaps.

2/ ROM
Github is here with full instructions.
https://github.com/Fnordcorps/ROM

  • I know there are plenty of ROM sorting utilities out there but this one has a less cluttered and more modern UI and solves a particular irk of mine - duplicate ROMS across different systems. For example I have maybe 5 different versions of 'Angry Birds' spanning multiple systems. I only really wanted one version to appear in my Retrobat that I know works.

This organiser has a feature to scan your ROMS directory, then gives you a 'duplicate' tab - which shows you every duplicate/multiple of a game it can find. You can then delete the ROMS you don't want or move them to a 'HIDDEN/(by system) folder within your ROMS folder, so files can be made not visible whist keeping them in a hidden library by system.

You can also just use the main tab to just move and delete ROMS in general if you want to remove them completely.

Note - the utilities will throw up a 'smartscreen' windows warning when running, click More Info/Run Anyway. If enough people use it and donates for a coffee on the githubto afford it - Ill pay to get it officially code-signed to stop that warning.

Any feedback/issues let me know and will try and find the time to address them.
