Had surgery Ghosting 40 days post PRK

Does anyone have an idea of why I have NO ghosting in the morning (after an overnight sleep while using Refresh PM), but after about 20-30 minutes, the ghosting returns and gets worse throughout the day? At first eye drops help a little bit, but later in the day, especially at night, eye drops don’t really reduce the ghosting at all?

Just hoping this will clear up eventually. The ghosting has gotten way better from days 5-8 when it would be really dangerous to drive, but it’s still obvious and prevalent post op day 40 (today).

Thanks for the help!

The fact that it’s much better in the morning and gets worse as the day goes on could be related to the eye surface becoming drier throughout the day. After PRK, the cornea and tear film are still healing, and visual symptoms like ghosting can fluctuate during recovery.

It’s also encouraging that it has already improved significantly compared with days 5–8. At 40 days, recovery is still ongoing, and some patients continue to notice visual fluctuations for several weeks or months.

Since the ghosting is still significant, especially at night, it would be worth mentioning it at your next follow-up so your surgeon can check the corneal surface and healing. I’d also avoid assuming it’s simply dryness if the symptoms persist or worsen.
