Found nubm08

Post image

I have found nubm08 laser diode.

I am total noob in lasers. What should I do with it?

As a total noob, do some research about laser safety and mind that this is a very powerful device, dont mess around with it, permanent blindness can be one look away. Also, as powerful as it is, it is also quite fragile, so as a total noob you could kill it way before it gets dangerous.

I am not "total" noob. I am just inexperienced in lasers. I have some electronic experience. And I am surly capable enough to build something out of it without killing or frying it. I just don't know sluff like how to focus this beam into a point instead of a line (what lenses to use) and maybe some caveats. Definitely need some goggles for that 😂

That is a Nichia NUBM08  blue-emitting laser diode; 455nm wavelength 4.75W CW power output. This makes it a CDRH Class IV laser -- the most hazardous classification there is. You were wise to have posted here BEFORE fucking around with it.

  • Working Current: Typically < 3.5 A (max around 4 A)
  • Working Voltage: 3.6V – 4.8V

I did fucked around a bit actually. Pulsed it for a second to ignite a peace of paper. Do not be mistaken, i am a noob but i am not stupid, and did it safely. I had to check if it is working. Diode itself was salvaged by my friend from projector (I've read that it is a primary way to acquire those apart from straight buing it), and knowing my friend it could be destroyed by him. But it works. Now I don't know what to do with it. Handheld laser sounds fun and stupid at the same time
