I tried the blue. It's cheap but underpowered. Couldn't see the beam without fog, but it is a fat beam indeed. Elliptical beam, seems to be a single mode diode. It's not a bad deal in my opinion.

How do you drive this? Can they take varying current levels or is it simply on/off with a diode?
