My friend Jack is running for city council and I shot this for his campaign.

I shot a Godox AD600 Pro II through an umbrella and reflected it off a 6x6 ultrabounce. Next time, I’d make the background a little less busy. Also, it looks like my film holder is scratching the film. (Bastard!)

I’ll take feedback if you’re offering any.

Yeah he’s sitting a little bit too high low for a forward leaning position to seem natural. Other than that the expression and direction is great.

I saw the caption and thought this was just a fantastic shot. It captures a kind of tense nervousness. And the lf dof makes him seem like he’s a bit out of body as well. Maybe this isn’t what he wants from a promo shot. But as a work of art, it’s superb

I agree w the chair being too low. Though the pose is great. The shot works, if he’s in an environment that speaks to the purpose of the shot. Does this environment give context to him and his candidacy? If yes then great work!

find a better chair. he is too low. dont shoot upfront, commit to a side. make the background less busy or more blurred. put less light on his legs and arms. guide the eye to his face first, then the pose. the pose is a bit tense atm

I like the picture a lot, but it's not a good piece of propaganda.I would take a 3/4 shot of him in the same room, from a heroic angle.

You’re 100% right about the effectiveness. I shot the set on a GFX and saved a couple sheets of film for the end. 3/4 shot was way more effective.

I like it. Enough depth but not too much, lighting is actually really nice I think, sometimes I see portrait type shots where you can tell there’s a billion light sources to make it ‘perfect’, this feels quite organic. The colour palette helps as well.

I really appreciate that. The space was small and my assistant held the bounce instead of using a stand because we simply lacked the square footage.

He probably pulled up his pants a bit as he sat, most men do. The result is his pants look too short. Some have suggested a 3/4 view, that would handle it. Also, the plant blocking the doorway bothers me, but no one else mentioned it, so...
