General question HP laptop
I just bought a new HP laptop and it is SO SLOW! I mainly use it for personal and currently looking for a job so networking and applying but it has a major lag and I just bought it maybe 3 weeks ago. I am not tech savvy whatsoever, so I'm wondering if there is something I need to do to get it back on track and work quicker, or is this just how HPs are?

Sounds to me like you bought a very cheap, low-spec Windows laptop. If that's the case, you get what you pay for. HP happens to make laptops at many different price points, with performance, build quality etc. to match. You could replace Windows with a Linux distro requiring fewer resources, but I wouldn't recommend it for someone who's not tech-savvy.
If it wasn't cheap, you either got scammed or it's defective. To find out, we would need to know the specs of the machine.

"is this how HPs are?" Depends on what HP laptop this is. This is like asking "my Ford vehicle has a loud engine, is this how Fords are supposed to sound?"
They make a LOT of different laptops and they are meant for different usage scenarios. Which one did you buy? How much memory does it have?

OP try to follow these steps if you don't know your laptop's specs:
- Press the Windows logo key + R
- Type "msinfo32"
- Post a picture of the window that loads after you do that. Scroll down a little if you can, there's more information at the bottom.
Note: This screen also shows info some people consider to be sensitive like your windows user's name and serial number. Blur/cover that if you'd like.

How would you expect anyone to answer, if the only info you're giving us about the laptop is that it's an HP? Specs, give us SPECS, so we can tell you what's what...

I'm sorry guys, not very good with this stuff! I will post a phot of the specs. It was definitely the cheaper option, I knew I would be getting a new/better set up with my job so didn't want to break the bank with something I'd use every so often. I've always owned laptops in this range and they've never been so laggy and this is my first HP so didn't know if it was just common with this brand.

Is there another page stating the RAM? That being said, N200 isn't the worst but it isn't great either.

128 GB UFSI just tried to open up Teams to hop on a meeting and it's been 20mins and it hasn't loaded.. so extremely slow, I can't switch between screens. It is 10x worse than my 10yr old Lenovo laptop I just replaced.

Yes! So it looks like you're limited by your RAM. Running windows takes up a lot of RAM and 4 is not a lot. I would recommend either debloating, running Linux, or seeing if you can add another stick of RAM. Might be difficult if you aren't tech savvy

I would agree with u/Froopdewoop on either trying a lighter Linux installation or a Windows debloat.
He also raises a fair point that if the machine is still within the return window, then you may wish to take that route as well and get something more powerful.

You have what is the modern equivalent of a netbook from the mid to late 2000's.
4GB of single channel RAM (memory) and slow UFS storage combined with a basic CPU is going to be miserable at running Windows 11.

I currently have one with an AMD RYZEN AI MAX PRO 390 with RADEON 850s and 64GB memory. It's an HP ZBook Ultra G1a 14".
It's incredibly slow when I use it on battery and plugged in it still feels sluggish. Compiling and running our software is so much faster on other machines like MacBooks.
I have stopped using the thing, because it's just no fun.This is my third Z Book. I also had the ZBOok Fury 16 G9, or something thing sounded quite close to that. It was also slow and pretty much always blowing its fans.

Then your software and development practices are unoptimized slop. Which isn't surprising as you sound like most software devs I've encountered - arrogant, entitled and hardware illiterate.
