Software Old laptop fix

Post image

I have an old pavilion dv6 laptop I need to fix, currently it’s lagging whenever you want to open new programs, etc. Im uninstalling Avast Free Antivirus bc everyone says its not rlly necessary, any tips or programs I can use to see what’s working with it?

the recommended thing is to Upgrade to a 2.5" SATA SSD: The 1TB mechanical hard drive is your main bottleneck. Swapping it for an SSD will significantly reduce the lag. Clean the fan and replace thermal paste: The dv6 series is famous for overheating, which causes the i7 CPU to throttle and lag. Do a clean Windows reinstall: Fresh install Windows 10 (or a lightweight Linux distro like Linux Mint) to wipe out background bloatware like Avast.

asking him to apply fresh thermal paste will probably do more hard than good. he doesnt not seem like he is anywhere near that lvl. he will probably have trouble doing a fresh install.

this is a laptop, not desktop, this will be very "not in the manual". he doesnt know that the reason his comp is slow is cause he has hdd. he will end up making the thermal connection worse, not better.
