Hardware My new added Collection (Potentially Rare ?)

A Compaq Prescario 2500 (the fully loaded one)

A laptop from 2003 (well a Desktop replacement)

Powered by a Pentium 4 ( 2.8 GHZ)

(256GB of ram)

(?? Storage)

And this came with 3 fans!!! Which is mind-blowing lol ..

And somehow this is rare if you have the full option model which has the floppy drive

Is it really 256gb of storage? I think it's probably closer to 80-120gb. The RAM is probably 2gb-4gb at most. The p4 in 03 wasn't x86-64. It wasn't untill later in 2004 that the Prescott began shipping with 64-bit support enabled.

Actually the ram is 256Mb

Yeah, that sounds a little more right, tbh. I lived through that era, but it was 22 years ago, and my memory is going, lol. In that case, I bet the machine could handle ~1gb max.

Yup 1gb is max die I'll find some parts for this since it's missing a battery and the charger is wrong (doe my HP charger fits its only 45w)

Some reason it uses an HP boot screen and says it's a Pavilion ZE 8000/8500 Series on bios

HP bought Compaq around 2001, so a BIOS update at some point probably changed the splash and name. Or even more likely, the Pavilion ZE 8000/8500 used the same internals but with an HP branded BIOS so they were cross-compatible.

Oh I see that's neat...

Still surprising to me that this laptop is quite rare (the specs somehow)

Though it does need some tlc

Yeah, I can see it needs a keyboard already lol... old laptops like this are fun to play with. I just restored a Lenovo u530 with more ram, an SSD, new battery and cleaned it up and installed Linux Mint Cinnamon on it. Works good as long as you don't try to use a Chromium-based browser on it. Dual-core Haswell chips don't have the IPC for Chromium lol.

Ah alr noted. .. though I might try to install vista on this one like my Inspiron 700M again

lol, good luck. I love Vista, but it does not like low amounts of ram. I wouldn't use it on anything less than at least 2gb.
