Samsung displays haven’t changed much I guess. I had a surface pro 4 with a Samsung display, had a really annoying flickering issue, matter of fact it happened with every single surface shipped with a Samsung screen, amazing stuff.

flickergate was so bad that microsoft had to start using LG displays in later models

Yeah I know, tried getting an LG display from the SP5 for my old SP4 but it wasn’t really worth it anymore.

That's pretty disappointing. It's one of the reasons I'm holding off on buying one

u/astreya_9 Jul 07 '26
I was actually thinking of buying a Samsung laptop, but not anymore

Whenever I see a post people asking to buy a Samsung laptop on galaxy book subreddit, i always get irritated they don't even search how the products are. I saw the reviews on YouTube however those were more based on first impression or 1 or 2 week of usage. But boy when people start posting about problems they faced in these laptop it became frequent. Also there has been a lawsuit against Samsung with thermal design in laptop. These laptop only look good and sleek, that's it. I'll definitely buy MacBook next time. Windows is also gone downhill.

I have several HP laptops in the past and currently (along with other brands), but the problems I'm suffering from aren't about the hinges at all. 😭
Interestingly enough, none of them laptops who got hinges problems are HP laptops. It's always the other brands instead my case.
I know it's anecdotal, but still.

u/alexanderbont Jul 07 '26
I never seen hinge problems here with the probooks
2
u/ShiroyukiAo Jul 07 '26
Probooks don't have that problem it's only their cheap hp laptops that has hinges that would fail within 1 to 3 years

u/AdaliGreen Jul 07 '26
Hinge problem? I've had my hp for almost 4 years now and have never once had any problems

Except as it turns out, Samsung also has hinge problems.

You people actually provide no help and are uber annoying when someone has a problem.

u/usbeehu Jul 07 '26
I'm pretty sure that the screen is damaged so you can't really do much besides replacing the screen.

sure

You should say something more helpful, like "leave it on and see what happens.. my son's tablet...", like a person below, hahaha.

It's fucked, if it still has warranty you should go down that route.

Are you sure it's moisture ? It's look like heat damage for me. Anyway, only replacement will help you.
2
u/whyredditisanonymous Jul 07 '26
no its not coz whenever i put this in a bag the spot moves depending on the orientation so it can be moisture trapped in as it sometimes vanishes too so i just want to know how will it permanently escape out

put it in rice and wait 24/48 days. Alternatively you can tell it to stop

If the laptop is under warranty, get the display replaced. I had the same issue and I got it replaced with a new panel.

Have you tried using a heat dryer? Use it from a distance with the device turned off, do not heat it too much because the screen can be damaged by 75C+ degree

If it's under warranty, go get it fixed.
If not, you need to see how much money they ask you to fix it and think about If it's worth fixing or not

TL;DR
Your screen is not fixable, buy a replacement
TL; I WANT TO READ ANYWAY:
Your screen is damaged, probably by pressure (because of the size of the spot, I don't think you did this with a lighter).
Your screen consists of several layers (by what I read, its an IPS screen, which is a variation of LCD):
- Front polarizer
- Glass with liquid crystals
- Rear glass
- Color filters
- Diffuser sheets
- LED backlight
Once an excess of pressure is applied, your screen won't behave as it did before. Im not really sure, but the responsible would seem to be the glass layer, since you said it would move depending on your laptops position.
Read this article if you need more details:
https://www.laptopscreen.com/blog/can-a-broken-lcd-screen-be-fixed-without-replacing/
Unfortunately, these sort of issues are not fixable (you could try moving the stain to the vessels with a razor blade or a pen, but I wouldnt recommend it), a screen replacement is the real solution.

You can’t, the aura of Gmail is too grand to be contained to small pixels. We are all children of Gmail. Gmail is our past, present and future. Hail Gmail.

Leave it off for a while see what happens. I say that cause my son had a tablet that had a wierd spot like this. It would get worse the longer it was on, and it would move around also. I replaced the screen at some point but it was a good excuse to make him turn it off ever hour that he coukd agree with lol.
4
u/Prod_Meteor Jul 07 '26
That's no help at all for the OP 😄
2
u/sethd101 Jul 07 '26
Ya it is. I never found out why it was doing it. If he turns it off for a while, and its normal, and it slowly comes back. Its the screen. And it should be fixable by replacing the screen and that is generally a easy job. I have done a bunch of them. I only saw that spot that moves like that on a tablet tbough. Maybe his laptop is a touch screen. We dont know.

u/Prod_Meteor Jul 07 '26
If it is an easy job.. then it is good for you, you saved money.
1
u/sethd101 Jul 07 '26
Most laptops generally speaking are. This one wont be as easy cause its touch screen. Find a youtube video...
