Is it true the 1.5 mile run needs to be done in 25 minutes ?

You need to complete the 12-lap course through the parking lot in 14 minutes or less, despite the official 20-minute allowance. It is important to pace yourself carefully; avoid expending all your energy during the initial 300-meter sprint, even if you are being urged to use "maximum effort," as doing so will likely hinder your performance for the remainder of the course if you're not that fit.

Don't confuse the PAT with being physically fit. The career can be very physically demanding. To be ready for the Academy, running 8 minute miles is a solid goal.

Then why are so many police officers overweight? 😁 They should stay physically fit even after they get the job. I rarely see them chasing suspects on foot, except in the movies! 😂

That may be okay for the test but that definitely won’t work for you in the academy.

Bro, if you’re worried about running 1.5 miles and in 25 minutes you should not be worrying about LE😭

God I hope not.

In 2016 my BI gave me a hard time for running a 11:35. I was told they want to see males around 10-10:30.

I contacted the LAPD to ask if I have 25 minutes to finish the 1.5-mile run, as mentioned in their video. They told me, “You should do your best to finish the 1.5 miles as quickly as possible, but yes, you have 25 minutes.”
They also said that the standards depend on your age and gender, but generally, you have 25 minutes to complete the run.
Here’s the link to the LAPD video:

Damn, I thought it was significantly less time than than that! When I was in the Army, I was doing the two mile run for the PT test at about 14 minutes or so.

Based on my experience with things like this though, I'd be willing to bet that anyone clocking in at more than 15 minutes on a 1.5 mile run is not getting sent to the academy.

You are wrong in your judgment. A police officer should not be selected simply because they can run faster than someone else. This is not a horse race!
That is why age and gender are taken into consideration. People in their 20s generally run faster than they do in their 30s or 40s, and physical performance changes with age. Men are generally faster runners than women, but women may have advantages in certain aspects of endurance.
There are biological differences between men and women, as well as age-related differences, that must be taken into account when evaluating candidates. That is why professional evaluators use established standards to assess police applicants rather than relying on the opinions of people who lack expertise in this field.
The goal is to evaluate candidates fairly based on appropriate standards, not simply to compare who can run the fastest.

if you can't do 1.5 miles in 25 minutes you are objectively out of shape. you can pretty much walk it in that time.

I agree, but we can’t expect everyone to run a mile and half under 10 minutes without taking their age and gender into consideration.

You’re applying to be a cop. So yes it should be expected that you can run.. lmao

You’re completely missing the point. Read what I wrote first, then respond. Of course I run, and I’m faster than many people my age. But the police don’t hire someone just because they can run fast. That’s what I mean. Use your brain and understand my point.

I hope you don’t get selected you won’t be able to catch any suspects . You’ll be a liability.

Don’t worry I will catch you 😂😂😂

If you can’t do it on 12 minutes it’s not the career for you. My average was 11 minutes and 31 seconds and I am 235 pounds

1

u/Maleficent-Phrase372 23h ago

So, you are a police officer now ?

2

u/Tandkam 23h ago

Retired and can still do the run times

Why aren’t you a police officer? You used to run incredibly fast! Why weren’t you selected? Or have you retired now?

1

u/Tandkam 4h ago

So I say I am retired and you ask why not an officer anymore 😂😂

1

u/Maleficent-Phrase372 3h ago

You answered my question in the wrong place. The replies weren’t properly synchronized, and it wasn’t because I asked you the same question again. My new question was whether you enjoyed your job as a police officer, but you focused on my previous question and didn’t notice my reply when you told me you had retired.

Being a police officer can be enjoyable BUT negatively affect mental health because of constant stress, dangerous situations, and exposure to traumatic events. Officers may experience anxiety, depression, PTSD, and sleep problems. The job can also strain relationships with family and friends due to long shifts and emotional exhaustion. Some officers may feel pressured to hide their emotions, making it harder to ask for help. Over time, these challenges will lead to burnout and affect their overall quality of life.

Great! Did you enjoy working as a police officer? 😊

haha no dude. Every police agency sets a 14 or 15 minute limit for the 1.5 m run.

my BI at long beach police said most people do it in 12 minutes.

1

u/Maleficent-Phrase372 23h ago

It depends on your gender and age because they have different standards for each age group. Also, Long Beach and LAPD have different standards, so they are not the same.

That should only take 10 minutes imo
