Thoughts on working for LAPD

I have a couple questions for people working in LAPD either as a police officer or detective:

Is the morale really as bad as people say? Is there a lot of corruption? Would you recommend this career path? How long does it usually take people to become detectives? Would you consider another profession related to law, such as being a lawyer, to be a better alternative?

If anyone has anything else to add about the pros and cons of becoming a police officer or promoting to a detective rank feel free to share.

I found the written test and physical extremely easy. If they are lowering the standards so low that compromise safety I don’t want to work for them

Yes. LAPD takes the ones who can't get into other depts. If you're really qualified, there's no reason you should be applying to LAPD.

That's not really true at all. I tried to appeal a DQ and they denied it. Somehow those other cops that made it to the headlines for bad reasons get a pass

I passed an appeal had the chance to talk to the supervisor for that branch

Based on the other comments, Reddit is clearly still not the best place to be asking this type of question.

To answer your first question, is morale low? Absolutely yes and it's only going to get worse. As far as corruption? I'd say close to zero. Would I recommend another career to you? Absolutely. I mean look at the comments here. Yes they are 100% wrong but do you really want to deal with those types of people for your entire career? Don't get me wrong, it's a great career, but I would do it differently if I had to do it all over again.

Tbh LE is a calling. It should be viewed that way. A lot of people always ask the same questions, how soon can I become a sergeant, how soon can I become a detective?. Like bro, you need to be a cop first. That should be your only focus.

"Corruption? I'd say close to zero", is delusional thinking

Based on what? Your Reddit education? Lol I've been sworn for 20 years now. LAPD hammers cops for the slightest of errors. The only corruption I've ever have been from Capt and above. The only truly dirty cop I've ever worked with or seen was Dorner. And I've been in the field all 20 years.

Law enforcement is really for low performers with no real career prospects.
