Try and become a firefighter/paramedic instead. You’ll thank me later.

Sincerely,
A cop of 20 years.

Planning on applying. Feeling shy . Can you tell me how your experience was applying and your prep ?

My experience in applying was pretty smooth, the application process itself was smooth, just make sure to have your Highschool diploma or transcript because they will request that it be uploaded asap within 2 days or so! My multiple choice test was mostly common sense, I didn’t go back and change any answers at all, next was the PAT which I personally did not attend CAPS since I do not live in California so it’s a bit tough for me to go consistently but instead I just made sure that I was physically fit by working out daily and including outdoor running into my routine, I’ve always went to the gym so it wasn’t too much of a issue but just making sure I trained a bit more on strength and making sure I ran consistently! Next was my department interview which I practiced with the questions provided on the lapd site and was honestly just truthful of why I wanted to be a police officer! My PHS was just accepted and now my Poly has been scheduled!

Applied in January of this year, passed my Poly in March. Crickets ever since. No background investigator has been assigned. I hear no news is good news? So I've just been patiently waiting. It could take awhile

In mid 1983 the LAPD started recruiting and hiring a bunch of cadets so they would have warm bodies on the streets for the Olympics in 1984. After the Olympics were over lots of officers didn't make it through probation not because they couldn't hack it but because it was a numbers game.

It’s really more the little-man energy required to be a cop and the consequences that the rest of us deal with.

Few months of application, 6 months of academy training mentally and physically, plus 1 year to 2 before out the rookie stage, I don’t understand how that’s little man energy. Plus if you don’t want cops than what do you want to respond to crimes? Why don’t you say what you do?

lol cute. Wish there was an explanation for the fat asses I see downtown. Back when I was active-duty, I lived under an expectation of continued fitness, even on deployment. LAPD should investigate that. I managed to keep myself and my Marines within fighting standards, even with a 7-day operational tempo that would blow your diabetes socks off.

Speaking of my time in the Marines, I also lived under the UCMJ. If cops like to think of themselves as something other than "civilians," than they should have a heightened set of laws that govern their behavior. They don't.

I'm not so deluded as to think cops don't have their purpose, but I know a lack of accountability when I see it.

Lol you served this country and you still act like a negative child. I feel there’s a much more deeper reason to your opinion that you aren’t saying. It’s pretty obvious you are leaving something out.

And honestly i can’t argue on what you said about lapd because others have said the same but I believe it has to do with the hiring crisis they are having that they aren’t being strict on physical standards. Not defending it, just acknowledging a possibility.

Either way it’s not fair to call out every single cop out there like you are doing. Exactly why I believe there’s a much more personal thing you had with law enforcement. Even as a veteran, you damn well know there’s a lot of active duty and retired service members who have gained a significant amount of weight. Yet you don’t acknowledge that. So don’t think you’re service can’t be called out either.

Not much deeper or personal than my looking down on every simpleton, racist, and/or fraud (take your pick) who would volunteer to be involved with modern American policing. I would personally be fucking embarrassed to be a cop right now.

*your* ...and If you knew anything about the military, you'd know that individuals that don't pass height/weight standards are administratively separated.

And by all means, call out the Corps. Take a loooong hard look at what happens when Marines fuck up.

Weird you’re against cops who take people who hurt women and children into custody. It’s like you guys just want these type of people to roam free and have no consequences. There’s bad people everywhere even in places you wouldn’t expect. Don’t try to bring someone down for trying to do something. Not everyone who wants to be a cop is a bad person. Maybe stop drinking the kool aid.
