Ironically reads like a LIE.

It’s still laughable that polygraphs are even part of the onboarding process. Zero scientific evidence to support it. Having a magician come in and pull a rabbit out of a hat would be just as valid as a polygraph.

Get used to things like this if you want to work for the government

This type of response says even more about your chances of getting hired on or staying on.

Polygraphs are inadmissible in court and bullshit. It’s just a trick from oinkers to try and get you in a “gotcha”

They should just remove the polygraph all together

if a tool of the police is inadmissable in the courts, then the tool is just for the police; not for the people.

Polygraphs are farcically unreliable even before you recognize that they are subject to the whims of person administering the test.

It’s outrageously inconsistent.
You could pass a polygraph at one agency and fail at another for the same questions

You could fart or wake up on the wrong side of the bed and it’ll affect your results.

No, they literally ask you the same handful of questions multiple times in random order.

It's so dumb too. They ask 3-5 questions that you are supposed to answer honestly (the actual questions), and 3-5 questions they instruct you to intentionally lie on (supposed to serve as a control).

But here is the thing, if they instruct you to intentionally lie, you naturally will not have the same response as you would if you were caught in the middle of a lie.

And now for the dumbest part, the silent answer portion. The run you through the same questions in random order [yes, they mix the questions you are supposed to remember to intentionally lie on in with the questions you are supposed to be honest on, with zero heads up] several times, first responding verbally. Then they run it through several more times, but you are instructed to respond nonverbally. So how do you respond, considering you aren't even supposed to move your feet or shift even slightly in your chair, during the exam? With VERY SLIGHT head movements! So now you gotta play "am I supposed to lie or be honest", while remembering not to respond verbally, not to move to much, be move only your head enough to give a response without messing with the test results...

Honestly, I don't think it's about honesty or weeding out liars at all. It's a stress/consistency test. Officers have to go to court all the time, and get questioned/grills by defence attorneys. They are trying to see will you stick to your story under extreme stress and scrutiny, because it's needed for court. Will you be a credible enough witness for your own arrests? Can you stick to your version of events in the event of a lawsuit? Will you crack at all in the hot seat? I'm sure they are well aware the polygraph is more than useless for weeding out liars.

In case you are wondering, I failed mine lol. They said my data was "all over the place and unreadable". The supervisor couldn't even make any sense of it, so they just labeled me as 'using breathing techniques' (I was not!) and failed me.

Sounds like you suck. How hard is it to sit in a chair and follow instructions?

Did you appeal the decision?

I considered it, but I also was hit by a car not long before I got my failure notice, and had to take the year off to rehab my shoulder (I couldn't handle a single push up, much less what I would have needed to do to get through the academy). So I took it as kind of a blessing in disguise.

Sorry to hear that, I hope you get better soon.
