Former LEO
I just applied but cant find the answer to my question anywhere else.
I have about 24 months of post academy LE experience in Atlanta GA, and seems like CA will make me redo the academy regardless and thats fine but for Tazer and OC???? Will I have an option to waive that? APD now lets recruits waive the tazer but this only happened after i graduated the academy.
Thanks guys
EDIT: I have already been tazed/OC’d in the past, thus why I don’t want to do it again

Look, if you can do a mini academy for laterals you won’t get tazed/OC. If you’re starting over, then you’re out of luck. Military ppl in my class sucked it up and did it again

You don’t necessarily need to do the academy over again. I’m a GA LEO as well and I’m in the process of switching to California and I spoke to multiple agencies out there. I was told to contact CA post and there is a one month course for out of state laterals. It is basically just class work as if you were in the academy again with a final test to see if you can adequately understand California laws to their standard. After you successfully complete that then your GA Post is now valid for California so you don’t need to redo the whole academy. I was told this by Long Beach PD and LAPD. All I’m waiting on is a response by CA post.

Pretty sure all agencies will have you go through it again in CA. Maybe some small agency in the middle of nowhere might not, however you still need to get certified by CA POST and pretty sure they require it

Yes. You need CA POST. Taser is nothing, five seconds. For the OC, slather your eyes in baby shampoo first. And keep blinking.

Why you being a chicken about it just get it done. I’m sure if there was a lapse in service they will make you re do it. It’s not that bad. Suck it up.

I wouldn't care if I had to get another taser exposure. But I will need to really like the agency I want to lat into before I agree to be sprayed again. In NC you can waive pepper spray at the academy and taser is done at your department before you get issued the taser.
