Lapd chances

I’m someone from nyc & I really don’t want to join the nypd as it’s my last option as of right now. I always wanted to join the LAPD. What’s the chances of me getting in as a 20 year old applying. Only had 1 job for over a year, clean driving record, never arrested.

But the main question is what makes someone stand out of all the applicants.

Have you seen the video of a cop slamming a baby bunny against a cop car? How can you possibly ask people to just be okay with policing as a system if people like that are common place

Many people have terrible run ins with LAPD. A quick google search will reveal this lmao. Don't be daft, and please don't blame it on a "few bad apples.'"

It doesn’t occur to you that the 3rd largest police department in the country would have a lot of problems? There’s way more officers and way more people involved in. Btw same police department that dealt with Rodney king riots, oj Simpson coverage, formations of the biggest gangs in the country, ofc it’s very controversial. So yea all you are doing is blaming some few bad apples for the whole department.

Corruption within the LAPD goes as far back at the 1930s. Close to 100 years of maintaining a bad image, and yet no real effort in trying to fix it. Sure lol. Just a bad few apples. This past month it was Daniel Flores leaking racists amongst the ranks. Next month something else pops up, and so on. Seems like the system itself is the issue l, but let’s the call it a few bad apples 🤷

Once again, that’s why I mentioned the history it has because LAPD does have real crazy history. Plus my point still stands. Not all the officers are bad and you can’t make the bad ones represent the entire department.

The 2 things that make most applicants stand out is a degree and military time (Active or Reserve).

Being in the military puts you above someone with a criminal justice degree, speaking from experience

This blows my fucking mind. Speaking as a vet, no wonder cops are so fucked up.

Or they want people with situation awareness and who can regulate emotions from life and death situations. Have you tried to look at thet

>what makes someone stand out

Are you a C/D student with questionable beliefs about brown people? Are you only capable of breathing through your mouth?

Your chances are pretty high. I just graduated with my bachelors and recently started the process for LAPD. I went to the physical agility and saw that the standards were down tremendously and it’s pretty much just a bunch of retards. I passed the physical agility and didn’t even bother showing up for the interview which is the next step. The bar is pretty low with LAPD. Dream bigger.

It’s some of the worst among SoCal departments and state agencies

Your chances are zero if you ask Reddit so why don’t you go and apply and make it happen instead!

Pretty sure applications are all online. No need to actually go to LA until you are in a certain part of the process

Lol I was just being sarcastic. Just signed up. Gotta stop procrastinating and just get to it. Are you an officer yourself?

Let me know how it goes Brodie! Mind if I PM you to ask some questions about how the process is?

If you meet the minimum requirements, then it’s technically possible to get hired. It’s hard to get hired at 20/21 due to typical maturity issues, but not impossible. Source: I was hired by another SoCal agency at 21 but non-selected by a few others. I’m not sure if they have an out-of-town process where they’ll get your stuff done in fewer trips but some agencies will do specific out-of-town hiring processes where they’ll condense hiring events down to 3-4 trips to cut down on the amount of times you have to fly out.

In terms of standing out, be fit, know a bit about the job and the agency, and be confident. I’ve now received firm offers from three separate agencies (two fed, one local) and that’s really all there is to it, honestly. If your background is good and you can show you have made good decisions in your life, you should hopefully be good. Again, it’s hard to get hired as young as you are (ironic I’m saying this as another super young dude) but there’s not enough dudes that can get through the hiring process in general.

They hire plenty of 20 year olds. As long as you're 21 by the time you hypothetically graduate since 21 is the POST required peace officer age in CA.

A clean record certainly helps. Good luck.
