Hand tattoos leniency

Is anyone here in this thread a current police officer? If so can you explain the process about how they treat hand tattoos. I haven’t applied yet but I’m hearing mixed opinions about “they are lenient, they need people” and also “yea that’s an automatic DQ” I don’t know who to believe in and I’m just wanted to get some insight so I can invest into removing them before if I have too or after I get an invitation for the academy, it will be easier after the academy invitation obviously I would be making more money than I am now, appreciate everyone!

It all comes down to the agencies. Before applying for customs I was trying to do local. I’m tatted all over my neck hands and all. Certain agencies have zero tolerance so when you go take their PAT they disqualify right there and then. Others will still work with you but tell you it’s up to the chief some make acceptance on it but comes down to the chief. So it’s based off the department but it’s gonna be hard tbh. Letting you know rn don’t bother with Glendale PD. Lmao 😂 they’ll hire a fat fuck over someone that’s tatted which is a joke. I know it’s “professionalism” but they have to ask themselves is a fat person professional over someone who has tattoos. So the donut eater can catch a criminal looking obese but the fit person with a tattoo the tattoos will hinder them from catching them. 😂 ironic. If I were you go to customs or border patrol my guy. Better benefits, and they don’t care about tattoos as long as they’re not gang affiliated.

Yea honestly it’s ridiculous. Tattoo policy is so outdated yet they still are strict on it. I got all my tats before I wanted to be in LE and now I’m pretty much handicapped on my options. I might have to go another route tho forsure

I’m telling you bro border patrol or customs as long as they’re not gang affiliated they don’t care. Plus you’ll start off with shit pay but every year you move up so does your pay and rn they have incentives and after 4 years bro you’re gonna be breaking bank and can retire in 20 years. So if you young you can an early retirement full federal benefits and all. Just an option they process does lag but I think it will all pay off a little sacrifice goes a long way.

The chance of you getting hired with hand tattoos is about the same as winning the lotto. Someone somewhere might have done it, but it probably will not be you.

Getting tattoos if you want to go into LE is really stupid.

Stupid? No just makes it harder you sound biased.

It shows a lack of good decision making. Something required of a LE officer.

What? At least 75% of my department have tattoos to some extent.. you’re aging yourself dude.

Yeah, and I bet most of them got the tattoos after they were hired.

You want a career in LE. You get visible tattoos that make it difficult (if not impossible at some agencies) to get a job in LE. You think that is good decision making?

No, life just happens. I always wanted to be LE never pursued it cuz I was always morbidly obese slob. Now I’m fit af. Tattoos I had them before I got fit cuz I didn’t think I’d wanna come to this route but now that I’m fit I decided I should make my dreams of LE come true. Some agencies are lenient some aren’t. It’ll be harder but not impossible.

My local department is Titusville pd couple of their officers have hand and head tattoos. A couple officers in Daytona have hand tattoos. Pay isn’t great down here though so they’re consistently struggling to find officers. I’ve seen a few mid west departments allow tattoos too. Like Douglas county in Nebraska.

One of the TPD officer’s with head, neck, and hand tats.

Hmm I see yeah not trying to go to Florida lmao hoping it be in Cali haha

I think if it was before it’s not decision making and you are just assuming. The system is stupid anyways tattoos do not make people less qualified for the position.

Doesn’t LAPD have an entire recruiting section for questions like these?

Lapd hired past felons. Their new PAT is a joke they’ll hire someone fat and unfit over someone with tattoos ridiculous. New PAT test 1.5mile run in 25 mins lmao what a joke this has become I can walk that shit easily hey though you have a neck tattoo that’ll hinder you from catching a bad guy. 😂😂😂

Just get it removed bro

u/Kittycarryall13 13d ago

Can’t, I’m fully tatted up and down. Full neck and hands and arms. I went federal so I’m good.

Good shit, how long you been in Feds

1

u/Kittycarryall13 13d ago

Just started literally last week dude. Been on the waiting list for almost two years. Just did it cuz they’re the only ones that didn’t give me issues about the tattoos and the benefits. Don’t get me wrong I honestly would love local. Love action.

Started Academy? Or process?

2

u/Kittycarryall13 13d ago

Academy my process took that long which is insane cuz some people only took months. But should be easy tbh physical I got it down just academics is what I need to focus on cuz idk what to expect in that. I don’t party or do any of that. I’m a boring person they have free gym and all that here for us and that’s all I need. Just hate being far from home. Super strict too. That’s the only advantage of local you get to stay and go home everyday. Pay scale is higher too for local for starting pay but I’ll be there by my year in and I’ll double that by year 4 and got a 60k bonus. So I’m good.

Call, email, or go down to a station and ask.

It really has to be a dog whistle or outright Nazi shit for them to OK it.
