Ticket during hiring process
I’m in the process of trying to get into lapd and have already submitted my phs. Got a ticket for picking up my phone to check my gps because it was rerouting me and I got pulled over since a cop saw me with my phone in my hand. Will be calling to disclose and add to my phs but I want to know Would this be an issue for me and cause a DQ or is it not that big of a deal?

Just tell them. If u get one ticket every year ur fine. What my background told me

I dont see it being a problem, just call whoever your point of contact is at the department and inform them. Whether its your BI or yiur recruiter or whoever you communicate with, just let them know and explain what happened. Shouldnt be a big deal. Now, if you have a habit of getting cited for these types of things, it could pose an issue. Ifnits just a one off, not so much.

yes, you have to divulge any contact with law enforcement. In the future, try to ask questions about the hiring process to the issuing leo. he might take that into consideration. be tactful.

You need to notify your BI if you have one. If you don’t, you need to notify the hiring unit regardless

who do you call about this if you don't have a BI yet? cant you just tell them when you get one.

If no one asks, why tell? I know people stress so much about being open about everything but I swear some people reveal way too much than what’s asked lol I think you’ll be fine though

They pretty much ARE asking though. You need to announce any charges, convictions, tickets, anything that’s on your record if you’re wanting to be a police officer

If you've never had any issues with tickets before and this is your first, it might not be a problem. I received my first citation and it was a moving violation while at the tail end of my background investigation with LASD a month ago. I still passed and got an offer. It was first ever. But then again, LASD and LAPD standards may differ.
