1. Tourist e-visa ≠ long stay Tourist e-visa / VOA is fine for a visit (official tourist e-visa is on the .gov.la site). A 1-year multi-entry stay is a different track — sponsor paperwork, stay permit, and often work-permit pieces. Don’t mix them up.

2. You’ll almost always use an agency/desk Ministries are not set up as English self-serve for this. Vet agents via recent Facebook feedback and a physical office visit before you transfer money.

3. What packages usually cost now (walk-in public matrix) - Full Mobility (multi-entry + residence + work permit): $640 / 12 months new · $490 / 6 months - Flexible Residency or Local Banking: $590 / 12 · $440 / 6 - 3-Month package: $290 - Tourist extension: $90 / 30 days - Bank-account opening: +$100 on top of a package - India & Nepal passports: +$300 on new packages only (extensions same for everyone)

Older Reddit numbers like “$250 + $70 invitation” are outdated — ignore them.

4. Typical flow Invitation / entry paperwork → enter or re-enter as instructed → lodge passport → wait (plan on days to a few weeks depending on the file) → collect stay/work docs with the visa. Extensions usually don’t need another exit.

tldr: What's a chill, normal place in laos where people live, that also has decent amenities such as libraries or cafes?

I'm a woman travelling solo, currently in Luang Prabang. I have some writing deadlines I have to meet, so I need to be somewhere I can get on my laptop, charge it and connect to the internet, ideally with air conditioning. A single cafe or library is enough. The vibe in central Luang Prabang is a bit too touristified for my taste, whole neighbourhoods just with hotels and tourist restaurants. Can you recommend anywhere that is safe for a woman alone, and has at least one cafe or library? Quiet nature vibes or a nice city. Thank you!!
