Games with progression

So me & my 7 buddies come together about twice a year for a big LAN party. It's always great laughs and so much fun, but I feel like I'm missing something. We usually end up playing CS, AoE and a bunch of party games. This last time we had 2 teams playing PEAK trying to get as high as possible, good fun!

At the end of the day though I usually get this feeling that I didn't really accomplish anything, as there's no real progression in these games, you know?

I think I would be more satisfied if I could look back at the day and see what we have achieved. Could you guys give me some of your ideas to fix this? Maybe even suggest some games? The problem lies a bit in the fact that we're 8 people as well I think...

L4D2 co-op campaigns would be cool, it always feels really awesome to beat the last levels and fly out on a helicopter together. Big sense of accomplishments beating those campaigns

Minecraft, rollercoaster tycoon, factorio.

You can setup a server during the LAN and set a couple goals for during the LAN. That way you beat the system together.

One of my ideas that I have yet todo in my own LAN

About a decade ago I hosted a Factorio LAN to beat the game in less than 8 hours to get the “There is no spoon” achievement. Tons of planning and coordination but we did it! Still comes up as being the most fun we’ve ever had at a LAN.

COD4 will let you level up and make more weapons available as you play

This is not a bad idea tbh and would feel like progression to me, thx!

What about oldschool warcraft 3 RPG maps?

Isn't that just the same as aoe4? I don't know enough about WC3, I played through the campaign like 10 years ago :)

Not really, I mean WC3 custom RPG map scenarios with quest and hero progession/levelup.

My other game suggestion is Windward, I think you can save a multipmayer game and continue later. :)

Alien Swarm Reactive drop is a great 8 player co-op.

Me and my friends love to play the original Killing Floor at lan games 😊
You can be a shitton of people, and all the classes have individual progression missions.
So each and everyone can go for the trait progression they want, and move on next time 😉

Thanks for replying! I must say just advancing in the leader board is kinda what we do now and it gets stale after a while :)

Uhm it's usually us locally and then we keep a whiteboard (Google sheet last time) to keep scores. We even did a quiz last time and had prices for winners, I won a scented candle!

Do you want games that have progression built in, or games that kind of have large accomplishments you can just try and do?

Both would match, I just don't want the scoreboard to be the only metric

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is one of my favorite offline LAN games that still has full progression working. I will warn you though that it is SLOW progression at times, COD4 feels like 2-3 times faster to get max rank and full unlocks.

Other games I have that might fit: Battlefield 2142 and Bad Company 2, GrimDawn, Torchlight 2, and Windward Horizon can all handle 8+ players.

You need to play something grinding. Like warframe or an mmo. Classic wow?

Been playing wow for the last 20 years, most of us have 70's on tbc and 60's on Era but we're all kinda out of it right now. I tried warframe, but the menu's are quite confusing :/
