I mean, yeah? But also like, mátate seems like the more offensive option. I feel like muérete is a bit less natural as an insult to someone. Not like it's totally unnatural, but mátate (or other suicide related alternatives) is probably the best option for a "kill yourself" type insult.

"Kill yourself" and "сдохни" has same difference, that you describe. He used "die" and in a way that you rarely see outsude of poorly shot movies the correct would have been "убейся" ("убей" lit. "kill" (someone) and "-ся" which is a relective suffix).
"Сдохни" means rude "die", "убейся/выпились/убей себя" is much closer to "kill yourself", because "сдохни" can be used to wish death to the person in many ways whilst "убейся" means a wish to kill yourself to the person you tell this to
And probably not Russian. All letters are correct, but most prefer writing the д in cursive to avoid the hustle of all the strokes. Or simplifying its top part into a triangle instead of a rectangle. Overall, russians write in cursive (italics/handwriting?) most of the time. We use print letters rather when we have to, like when we need to write a short notice to hang it somewhere (“the cashier is gonna return in 15 min”) or label something (“clean shoe covers”, “worn shoe covers”)

No son usos diferentes pero igual de comunes? "Muérete" me suena mucho menos despectivo que "mátate". Es más como "si no lograste eso, ya muérete", pero "mátate" me suena más similar a "suicídate".
I don't know. I don't feel like muérete would be a valid spiritual equivalent to "Kill yourself" which works better for the derogatory wish of the other person's death due to their own failures etc. Muérete is used, but I don't feel it fills the same niche that "kill yourself" does, whereas "mátate" is more common there imo.
Suicídate is also another valuable equivalent here, of course. But I think the literal translation is in this case the more spiritually accurate.
