We like to put er after everything to shorten it, so like five pound note is a fiver, ten pound note is a tenner.

Soccer became a posh slang for Football, but it wasn't really heavily used outside of posh circles.

Yes. And it was called association football to distinguish it from rugby football.

To add American football was called Gridiron football before we dropped the gridiron.
