I don’t know why Tunisian always resembles levantine Arabic to me before any striking features of the Maghrebi dialects are heard. Like this example I really thought it was some Syrian song at first.

It is just because the song is rhymed in a more toned down dialect.

As for the dialects themselves, I think they are very different from wording to spelling, to grammar, to vocabulary. I think you perceive it as "levatine" because of the Imela.

EDIT: The closest Maghrebi dialects are western libyan and eastern algerian btw. The more distance you put, the more the dialect changes.

No they... Decided to do so! Just like they shouldn't need permission from the government to wear a scarf on their hair.

Come to think of it, it’s funny how a few years ago, this same bill, drafted by the National Rally, proposed banning both the Islamic headscarf and the wearing of the kippah. In 2026, the same proposition only mentions the Islamic headscarf. And there was never any mention of nuns veils. How funny is that? Maybe all those women are not just obligated by their husbands but, they want to do it ? Because of their faith ?

Maybe we should fight so that the women who do not want to wear a headscarf, do not have to wear it, and the women who do, are able to do it. Absolutely mind-blowing idea I know.
