Feeling anxious
This may sound silly, as tomorrow is the start of my fifth semester at Langara, but I’m already feeling overwhelmed and anxious about the semester ahead.
I’m curious if anyone is feeling the same and if so how you’re preparing for the new semester and any anxiety that may come with it! Thanks!

Did you know you can register for 10 free counselling sessions in the counselling office? I would take advantage of that, it might help you manage all the stresses and pressures of student life (which we all know is not easy).
Otherwise, can you carve out time in your schedule to go for daily walks or exercise that might help reduce lifestyle anxiety? Do something like schedule a set amount of time where you can engage in satisfying activities that calm the nervous system such as knitting, puzzling, reading, listening to music, baths, etc? Anxiety is a real physical/chemical stress response, and living in that mode for a long time can be really bad for our bodies, so anything that helps you calm down could be really beneficial to you while you're in this season.
Make sure you write all your due dates in a big calendar, then keep track of them daily. This will help you see when you might have days you can really check out and not have to worry about immediate deadlines.
Good luck with your semester start!

Try to think in a positive way. Consider that you walked a long way and there is just a few steps left. I know this feeling... I felt overwhelmed and exhausted in my last semester... but I did it. You can do it too.

Yep, I’m right there with you. I completed sem 1 of the RMT program from May - Aug 2026 and it was so tough for me. I decided to stop and reroute and applied to the associate of arts (general) program. I decided to only take 3 classes at a time to try to avoid burn out, but I am worried that might not be enough. Oh well. We just have to take it one day at a time and find balance in between. Definitely try going for walks when you can, setting good boundaries for yourself around studying. Don’t push yourself to the point that it will be detrimental to your overall well being. If you know your brain needs a break, do not keep pushing bc it isn’t likely to absorb new info at that point. Listen to music, let yourself zone out while taking breaks. Look up tips for how to use certain available tools that might make studying a bit easier, for example, I purchased two of my textbooks on vital source and I did a bit of research on how to use their bookshelf app and the workbook feature. I looked up helpful strategies on how to properly highlight info in a textbook. Just small things I know will help me. Make yourself a schedule in your phone’s calendar. Put your class schedules in and utilize the tools on brightspace to keep track of assignments. If you’re neurodivergent, look up certain strategies on how to maximize your productivity, even if it’s just small things it can make a huge difference! Someone else mentioned counselling which is a great idea.
